Prerequisite NIL
1. To study and understand IoT Market perspective and state of the Art –
IoT –Architecture.
2. To understand data management and use of devices in IoT
Technology.
Course
Objectives 3. To study real world IoT design constraints, Industrial automation and
commercial building automation in IoT.
4. To understand the opportunities and constraints of wireless mobile
networks for Internet of Things.

On successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:


1. Demonstrate the skills and knowledge acquired with respect to the
fundamentals of IoT devices (1)
2. Explain and discuss the protocols used in IoT communication , and the
Course architecture of Internet of Things (2,3)
Outcomes 3. Review the real world applications of Internet of Things and apply the
concepts in new domains (2,5)
4. Devise techniques to secure communication among IoT devices based on
the existing security pattern(6,9)

UNIT I IoT – INTRODUCTION


The Internet of Things, Importance of embedded system in IoT, components of an embedded
system and its interactions with physical world. Hardware components used in IoT devices.
Interaction between software and hardware in IoT devices. MANETs and their relation to IoT.

UNIT II IoT PLATFORMS AND PROTOCOLS


Platforms - Hardware, SoC, sensors, device drivers and IoT standards. Cloud computing for IoT,
Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy and beacons. Protocols - NFC, RFID, Zigbee, MIPI, M-PHY,
UniPro, SPMI, SPI, M-PCIe. Wired vs. Wireless communication, GSM, CDMA, LTE, GPRS
and small cell.

UNIT III IoT ARCHITECTURE
Architecture Reference Model - Introduction, Reference Model and architecture, IoT reference
Model, IoT Reference Architecture, Functional View, Information View, Deployment and
Operational View. Real-World Design Constraints- Technical Design constraints, Data
representation and visualization, Interaction and remote control.

UNIT IV IoT APPLICATIONS


IoT applications for industry: Future Factory Concepts, Brownfield IoT, Smart Objects, Smart
Applications. IoT applications in retailing Industry, Oil and Gas Industry, Estimations on IoT
Application and Value for Industry.

UNIT V IoT ATTRIBUTES AND SECURITY


Value Creation from Big Data and Serialization, Big-Data Analytics and Visualization ,
Dependability, Security and Maintainability. Security, Privacy and Trust in IoT Data Platforms
for Smart Cities, First Steps Towards a Secure Platform.
