Note: Don't worry about general verbs and nouns that we use in this lesson. ONLY focus on
distinguishing the subject, verb, complement, and object.

1. Subject + Verb: "Subject do/does Verb" = S + 은 (eun)/는 (neun) or 이 (i)/가 (ga) V한다
(handa).

For Example:
1. 팀은 먹는다.
Tim-eun meok-neun-da.
"Tim eats."
2. 데비는 공부한다.
Debi-neun gong-bu-han-da.
"Debbie studies."
3. 팀이 먹는다.
Tim-i meok-neun-da.
"Tim eats."
4. 데비가 공부한다.
Debi-ga gong-bu-han-da.
"Debbie studies."

As you can see from the above, in a basic S + V Korean sentence, to make and distinguish
the subject from other parts of sentence elements, you have to look for the particles 은
4 (eun)/는 (neun) or 이(i)/가 (ga).
For Example:
1. 나는 먹는다.
Na-neun meok-neun-da.
"I eat."
2. 학생은 공부한다.
Haksaeng-eun gong-bu-han-da.
"A student studies."
3. 그가 먹는다.
Geu-ga meok-neun-da.
"He eats."
4. 학생이 공부한다.
Hak-saeng-i gong-bu-han-da.
"A student studies."

POINT #1: The subject in a basic Korean sentence requires the particles 은 (eun)/는 (neun)/
이(i)/가 (ga) right after the subject.

2. Subject + "Be" Verb + Complement: "Subject is Complement" = S + 은 (eun)/는 (neun)

Complement 입니다 (imnida) "to be"

1. 나는 팀입니다.
Na-neun Tim-im-ni-da.
"I am Tim."
2. 그는 한국사람입니다.
Geu-neun han-guk-sa-ram im-ni-da.
"He is Korean."
3. 그녀는 데비입니다.
Geu-nyeo-neun De-bi-im-ni-da.
"She is Debbie."
4. 그녀는 미국사람입니다.
Geu-nyeo-neun mi-guk-sa-ram-im-ni-da.
"She is American."

As you can see from the above, in a basic S + "Be" Verb + C English sentence, we can
simply translate into "Subject 은 (eun)/는 (neun) Complement 입니다 (imnida) in Korean.
For Example:
1. 그녀는 선생님입니다.
Geu-nyeo-neun seon-saeng-nim-im-ni-da.
"She is a teacher."
5 2. 그는 학생 입니다.
Geu-neun hak-saeng im-ni-da.
"He is a student."

POINT #2: The basic English sentence "A is B" translates as A은 (eun)/는 (neun)
B 입니다 (imnida) in Korean.

3. Subject + Verb + Object: "Subject verb object" = "Subject" +이 (i)/가 (ga)

or 은 (eun)/는 (neun) "Object" +을 (eul)/를 (reul) Verb 한다 (handa)

1. 팀이 밥을 먹는다.
Tim-i bab-eul meok-neun-da.
"Tim eats a meal."
2. "Debbie studies Korean."
데비가 한국어를 공부한다.
De-bi-ga han-gu-geo-reul gong-bu-han-da.

"Debbie studies Korean."

3. 나는 밥을 먹는다.
Na-neun bab-eul meok-neun-da.
"I eat dinner."
4. 학생이 한국어를 공부한다.
Hak-saeng-i han-gu-geo-reul gong-bu-han-da.
"A student studies Korean."

As you can see from the above, in a basic S + V + O Korean sentence, to make and
distinguish the object from other parts of sentence elements, you have to look for these
particles 을 (eul)/를 (reul).
For Example:
1. 데비가 점심을 먹는다.
Debbie-ga jeomsim-eul meokneunda).
"Debbie eats lunch."
2. 팀이 영어를 공부한다.
Tim-i yeong-eo-reul gong-bu-han-da).
"Tim studies English."

POINT #3: The object in a basic Korean sentence requires the particles 을 (eul)/를 (reul)
right after the object.
