Instructions to Candidates
 Write your name in the space indicated above.
 Do not open this examination paper until instructed to do so.
 You are not permitted access to a graphing calculator for this paper.
 Section A: answer all questions in the boxes provided.
 Section B: answer the question in the answer booklet provided. Write your
name on the front of each answer booklet, and place them inside this
examination paper.
 Unless otherwise stated in the question, all numerical answers should be given
exactly or correct to three significant figures.
 A clean copy of the Mathematics HL Formula Booklet is required for this
paper.
 The maximum mark for this examination paper is [51 marks].
 There are 6 questions in this examination paper.
Full marks are not necessarily awarded for a correct answer with no working. Answers must be
supported by working and/or explanations. Where an answer is incorrect, some marks may be
given for a correct method, provided this is shown by written working. You are therefore advised
to show all working.

2. An airplane is flying at a constant speed at a constant altitude of 3km in a straight
line that will take it directly over an observer at ground level. At a given instant the
 1
observer notes that the angle  is radians and is increasing at
3 60
radians/second. Find the speed, in kilometers per hour, at which the airplane is
moving towards the observer.
