1.1 Introduction
This manual is intended as a complete guide to the RE – AMB Addressable
modbus converter. User operating Instructions are provided in the first part of this
manual. This is followed with sections describing installation and commissioning
procedures and full technical details are provided.
1.2 General
The modbus convertor interfaces with fire alarm control panel through RS485 or RS232
and converts to modbus protocol. The modbus creates a hierarchical structure that is master
& slave. The modbus protocol enables the master device to interrogate the slave devices. It
has two types of interrogates, master & slave devic e with or without waiting for the slave
response.

Place the panel in its mounting position and fix the panel to the wall using the slots of the
four screws. Ensure the enclosure and the inner parts of the panel are given sufficient
protection during installation. All external cables are to be entered via the Æ 19mm
preformed knockouts located at the top of the panel .
When the installation of all the cables has been completed, clean the interior of the
enclosure ensuring all masonry debris and drilling swords are removed.

Baud rate for MODBUS shall be changed using the DIP Switch positions 8 & 7
as shown in the below table.
ON = 0 ; OFF = 1
SW 8 SW 7 Baud Rate
0 0 19200
0 1 9600
1 0 38400
1 1 115200
DIP SWITCH :
The DIP Switch is used to set address for the modbus. It should be the address to which
the panel is going to connect with the modbus.Address of the device is defined by moving
the switch position to ON.
Example :
Address 1 :
The FACP and Modbus address should be same.

OPERATION :
The RE-AMB is used to interface FACP & third party devices like BMS software through modbus
output. The Modbus converter converts Ravel RS 485 protocol to modbus protocol as RS 485
output. The FACP address and Modbus address should be same and baud rate should be
matched with specified in mapping detail with respect to FACP model. The modbus output gives
the information of FACP like detector status, NAC status, Power status etc...
For more detail refer mapping detail.
EXCHANGE FORMAT :
MODBUS protocol has the following no configurable exchange format :
Speed
? : 19200 / 9600 / 38400 / 115200 bits/second
Parity
? : none.
Format
? : 8 bits and 1 Stop bit.

Modbus frames:
MODBUS RTU frames have the structure is given below :
Note: The cable used for the communication is Standard Serial cable or CAT5E.
PRINCIPLE OF COMMUNICATION
MODBUS protocol is a dialog protocol which creates a hierarchical Structure
(master and slave). MODBUS protocol enables the Master device to interrogate
the intelligent slave devices.
Two types of dialog are possible between the master and slave devices: 1. The master
device talks to a slave device and waits for its response.

Separate whole 16 bit register is used for common alarm / supervisory / pre-alarm / fault in
the address 40521,40522,40523,40524 respectively.
If the register value is 00 00 then there is no event in the panel and if there is any value then it
represents the corresponding events.
