Lesson Topic: Substance Use and Abuse- Drugs
and Alcohol Teaching Strategy: The discussion method
Unit: Drugs and Alcohol Day 1 of 3 and brainstorming method

TSW understand who a positive influence in their everyday lives and how to ask for help.

Standard 2- 2.5.3 Describe how peers can influence healthy and unhealthy behaviors

TSW describe ways that they have seen substance use and abuse in technology.
Standard 2- 2.5.6 Describe ways that technology can influence personal health. (Analyze

TSW come up with a way to say no to drugs with their peers

Modifications/Accommodations for special needs/diverse learners (What plans and
accommodations will you implement to ensure that all student can become physically
educated):
For the students who need modifications or accommodations for special needs, I can allow
for the students who have a harder time seeing sit towards the front of the classroom. When
working with partners, I can make sure my students will special needs are with someone
that they can work with well based on what I have learned from previous classes.

Introduction, tie to prior learning (what students already know/can perform):
This is our introduction lesson to our substance use and abuse unit we will be starting. We
have already learned about other things that are bad for our bodies, but today we will be
talking about how different kinds of drugs that are harmful to our bodies.

Closure- Now that you know what type of drugs are bad for your body and why people are
addicted, I will hand out this worksheet. On this, you will read through each scenario and
decide what you would do.

Evaluation/Reflection/Comments: Did you meet your lesson objectives? How do you
know? What evidence do you have of student learning? What changes did you/will make to
this lesson as a result of the changing environment/classroom and student responses?
Yes, I met my objectives by covering it all in my powerpoint. I also quizzed the class at the
end through a kahoot quiz. I will have evidence of the students learning when they get all
their questions correct over the quiz. I will need to make sure any environment I teach this
lesson in has access to a computer to watch the video and play the kahoot.
