RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

1. Approaches to research
A research method is a systematic plan for conducting research. Sociologists draw
on a variety of both qualitative and quantitative research methods, including
experiments, survey research, participant observation, and secondary data.
Quantitative methods aim to classify features, count them, and create statistical
models to test hypotheses and explain observations. Qualitative methods aim for a
complete, detailed description of observations, including the context of events and
circumstances
To approach the research, we use qualitative research method which is a scientific
method of observation to gather non-numerical data. This type of research refers to
subjective assessment of characteristics, attitudes, opinions and behaviors.

In 2002, the WHO estimated that 150 million girls and 73 million boys under 18
experienced some form of forced sexual intercourse or violence. “12% of children
were sexually abused in past year” revealed by WHO- World Health Organization.
It showed that the ratio of child molestation has sharply increase. For almost people
who suffering child abuse, overcoming this event is extremely struggling. After
experiencing severe trauma, they are often suffered anxiety, stress, nervousness, they
seem to be in the panic, excitable emotion all the time. They tend to scare everything,
to isolate themselves from the society. Some might be get serious depression, turn
to introvert people. They can harmful use tobacco, alcohol, drugs just to temporarily
forget their pain, day by day they become addicted to these stuff, because of the
effect of these stimulant, they are likely to commit crime .Some people even commit
suicide. As a result, their family and themselves must bear many physical pain and
mental pain, the society getting more and more troublous.

We realized the important of this topic in our society so we choose it to research.

We found out the reason people are struggling with this problem. It is definitely
tough for them, nobody wants it to happen but we need to be aware of the solution
in order not to deep into that woe. Apparently, it is lack of soft skills that makes
those people are not capable of handling these kinds of situations to lead a better life.

By using the qualitative approach, we can manage the issue of human complexity
through exploring it, in this case is the innermost feeling of a child when facing a
very tough time of life. There being many other ways to approach this research, we
believe that qualitative method is best suited due to the time limit and scale of the
study.

2. Methods to apply

To collect data for the research, we used observation method combined with role-
playing. On that basis, we applied some soft skills to clarify the need of such skills
for the child.
- About observation method:

Observation methods are useful to researchers in a variety of ways. They

provide researchers with ways to check for nonverbal expression of feelings,
determine who interacts with whom, grasp how participants communicate with
each other, and check for how much time is spent on various activities. Participant
observation allows researchers to check definitions of terms that participants use in
interviews, observe events that informants may be unable or unwilling to share
when doing so would be impolitic, impolite, or insensitive, and observe situations
informants have described in interviews, thereby making them aware of distortions
or inaccuracies in description provided by those informants.

Using participant observation in research helps us identify and guide

relationships with informants. By conservations, the researcher get the feel for how
things are organized and prioritized, how people interrelate, and what are the
cultural parameters. Therefore, it makes it possible to collect different types of
data. Being on site over a period of time familiarizes the researcher to the
community, thereby facilitating involvement in sensitive activities to which he/she
generally would not be invited. Moreover, it reduces the incidence of "reactivity"
or people acting in a certain way when they are aware of being observed.
Furthermore, it helps the researcher to develop questions that make sense in the
native language or are culturally relevant. In addition, it gives the researcher a
better understanding of what is happening in the culture and lends credence to
one's interpretations of the observation. Participant observation also enables the
researcher to collect both quantitative and qualitative data through surveys and
interviews. Besides, it is sometimes the only way to collect the right data for one's
study. Hence, it can be said that observation acts as a fundamental and the basic
method of getting information about anything.
- About role-playing:

Along with observation, we conducted a role-play- takes place between two or

more people, who act out roles to explore a particular scenario to dig deeper into
the thinking, the emotions, the ways the girl in video acted when dealing with
changes in a new environment, which helped our research to be more specific and
reliable. Role-playing enables participants to have firsthand experience through
particular situations. It's most useful to prepare for unfamiliar or difficult
situations. For example, when role-playing, people in my video can use it to
practice presentations, or emotionally difficult conversations, and so on. By acting
scenarios like these out, we can explore how other people are likely to respond to
different approaches; and you can get a feel for approaches that are likely to work,
and for those that might be counter-productive. You can also get a sense of what
other people are likely to be thinking and feeling in the situation.

Also, by preparing for a situation using role-play, you build up experience and
self-confidence with handling the similar situation in real life in future, and you
can develop quick and instinctively correct reactions to situations. This means that
you'll react effectively as situations evolve, rather than making mistakes or
becoming overwhelmed by events. You can also use role-play to spark
brainstorming sessions, to improve communication between team members, and to
see problems or situations from different perspectives.

3. Research procedures

Our research was carried out following these steps below:

Step 1: Identification of broad area of research

Step 2: Selection of specific research topic

Step 3: Decisions regarding research approach

Step 4: Design the research plan: With research questions defined, the “What” of the
study has been established. Then we thought of Who, When, Where, Which and
How.
 Who: Figure out who would be the subjects
 Where: Determine where data would be collected
 When: Determine when the cases might incur
 Which: Find out the order style
 How: Work out the details of what the participants will do, if anything, and
what would be needed to collect data.
Step 5: Information collection

Step 6: Data analysis

Step 7: Presentation of finding
