INTRODUCTION

SINTER PLANT
Integrated steel plants generate a lot of waste from the various units which
are rich in metallurgical content.

Sintering process caught attention of steel plant managers around the world
to take care of waste generated in the steel plant and the fines generated in
the mines.

Why sinter?
Sintering is the agglomeration of fine-grained iron ores for blast furnace
burden Sintering produces a feed of extremely consistent quality in terms of
its:
 Chemical composition
 Grain size distribution
 Reducibility
 Sinter strength

To Operate and establish the Sinter Plant as a Cost Control Centre

MISSION

To achieve highest Production of quality Sinter consistently by optimum


utilization of plant wastes incorporating innovative ideas and new
technologies.

Sintering Process:

In sintering all the constituents, preferably –3mm in size, are


mixed together in correct proportions and put in a layer over in a
moving grate.
The grate, initially passing under a ignition hood fired
by combustible gases, is provided with ‘bellow the grate’ suction.
The heat generated from the ignition of coke fines
causes calcinations of the fluxes and leads to slag formation from
the gangue constituents.
The slag formed mostly causes the bonding of various
particles and the mixture of particles converts into a solid but
porous mass.

The sinter is broken down into a suitable size, 5-50mm,


cooled and then transported to blast furnace for its use as feed
material replacing lump ore.
