living things that depend on each other to survive.
Plants (flora), animals (fauna) and other animals
such as fungi and microorganisms are living
things. They interact with each other and with
their physical environment and form a
Community. Those that belong to the same
species are called population.
ecosistema es un sistema que incluye a todos
los seres vivos e inertes que dependen unos de
otros para sobrevivir. Plantas (flora), animales
(fauna) y otros animales como hongos y
microorganismos son seres vivos. Interactúan
unos con otros y con su entorno
medioambiental y forman una Comunidad.
Aquellos que pertenecen a las mismas especies
se llaman población.

The ecosystems can be classified as land and water ecosystems. Los ecosistemas
pueden clasificarse como terrestres y acuáticos.

Some water ecosystems are LAKES, Algunos ecosistemas acuáticos son los
OCEANS and RIVERS. lagos, océanos y ríos.

Some terrestrial ecosystems are Algunos ecosistemas terrestres son los

FORESTS, GRASSLANDS and DESERTS. bosques, las llanuras y los desiertos.

FOOD CHAIN (LA CADENA ALIMENTICIA) A food chain is made up of several
levels: (Una cadena alimentaria está compuesta de varios niveles)
1. Producers: Plants and algae are
producers. They make their own
food through photosynthesis.
2. Consumers: “Consume” means
“eat”. Consumers obtain their
food by eating other living things.
3. Decomposers: Decomposers live
on the remains of other living
things. Most decomposers are
fungi and bacteria.
Caring for the Environment
It is in our own best interests to look
after the world we live in. There are lots
of reasons why animals become
endangered or extinct. The most common
are:
1. Loss of habitat (woodlands cut
down, rivers poisoned...).
2. Chemicals or pollution poison the
animals.
3. Hunting (for sport, their fur,
meat...).
1. Productores: Las plantas y las algas
son productores. Producen su propio
alimento gracias a la fotosíntesis.
2.Consumidores: Consumir quiere
decir comer. Los consumidores
obtienen su alimento al alimentarse
de otros seres vivos.
3.Descomponedores: Los
descomponedores viven en los
restos de otros seres vivos. La
mayoría son hongos y bacterias.
Cuidar el medioambiente
Es muy importante cuidar el medio en que
vivimos. Hay muchas razones por las que los
animales pueden llegar a estar en peligro
de extinción. Las más comunes son:
1. Pérdida de su hábitat (talar bosques,
envenenar los ríos...)
2. Productos químicos o venenos que
matan a los animales.
3. La caza indiscriminada (deporte,
para obtener pieles, carne...)
