Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Representation and Engagement: The students will be able to engage in a classroom activity by listening and
watching the PowerPoint presentation the educator has established regarding different sorts of emotions and
feelings. The students will have the ability to learn about different feelings and emotions, and also learn how
they are feeling today. This is a great presentation to introduce to the children about fun and exciting ways
for the students to learn how they are feeling everyday, and how their emotions can change from time to
time.
Action and Expression: Students will be encouraged to participate and express to the educator on how they
are feeling in the classroom. The students will also have the opportunity to make different face expression
that matches each mood. (ex. If the image shows a face that is sad, the students are able to frown)

Lesson idea implementation:

At first the educator will introduce the children to the song “If You’re Happy and You or Know It.” The
teacher will turn on the song and dance on the projector. The students will be encouraged to get up off their
seats and do some movements that go along with the song. After introducing the dance and song that went
along with the dance, I will put up an PowerPoint I have established. The PowerPoint movie will include
images of different emotions with the word on top of the image and the students will be able to listen to the
audiobook that went along with each of the slideshows. The PowerPoint will helps the students participate
and want to become more involved with knowing different emotions and also knowing and getting to know
their own emotions and feelings. The presentation will be ending by asking how the students are feeling
today. Students will be assessed by seeing how they are currently feeling in the moment and also how their
other classmates are feeling.
The closing activity the teacher will be extending to a higher level by having all the children gather together
on the floor, and have some circle time with the teacher and her students. The students will be sitting in a
circle next to their classmates. The teacher will then proceed to tell her how she is feeling today, then she will
ask the students “How are you guys feeling today?” The students will take turn and go around the circle
expressing how they are feeling. After each student has taken their turn, I will then praise them for an
excellent time participating in the activity for the day by giving them each emoji stickers with happy faces.

Reflective Practice:
I believe that this lesson plan will help the students learn the importance of emotions and how they feel and
how others around them feel. Helping children to identify and label emotions is an important social-
emotional development step. The parents can also get involved in this lesson plan by asking the children how
they feel about their day when they get home. The students can also have the opportunity to discuss their
feelings and emotions with their siblings, friends and family members.
