AMISOM provides hundreds with free medical care in Dhobley

Mogadishu, 02 October—African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) military

officers on Tuesday held a free health screening at Dhobley General Hospital as part
of activities to support communities and improve on quality healthcare delivery.

Residents, who turned up in their large numbers, received free medical checkup,
medication and professional advice from medical doctors with the Kenyan Defence
Force who collaborated with medical personnel from the Dhobley General Hospital.

LT Col. Dr. Wahome, of AMISOM Aid, said they attended to over 300 patients with
cases ranging from malaria, diarrhea, respiratory and throat infection, skin diseases
and children with burns and skin abscesses.

“As part of the Somali Transition Plan and our Concept of Operations, we have a
responsibility to support and develop the capacity of our Somali counterparts. Even
though we are in uniform, we are health professionals and partnering with our
counterparts at Dhobley General Hospital has been a tremendous success”, Dr.
Wahome said.

The Dhobley Administrator, Siyad Mohamed Hassan, thanked AMISOM for the
continued support to the people in and around Dhobley. “This is the fourth
collaboration we’ve had with doctors from AMISOM and we hope for more of such in
the future” Mr Hassan said.

The Jubbaland Health Coordinator, Nur Bihi Osman, was at the hospital to witness
the hundreds who came to receive medical assistance.

LT.Col Johali Muwaziche Miljalla, the commandant of AMISOM Level 2 Hospital in

Dhobley said compared to a few months ago, the medical camps were increasingly
receiving more participation.

“Our last medical camp in May attended to about 200 people. This time however we
have seen about 300 patients. We are finalizing our community programmes which
includes healthcare professionals moving from community to community to offer
outreach services. They will identify and review cases including cleft palate, cleft lip,
vesicovaginal fistula, among others. The patients will then be refereed to Dhobley
General Hospital and after evaluation we will prep them for surgery”, LT.Col Miljalla
said.
