go leave,

*Pledge of Loyalty * Military Secrecy leave it here.

3. ACP Maxim: The

seniors will not think of the

Forces Acting on a Plane difference in grade but the

juniors will never

-THRUST – forced produced by the movement of the propeller. forget it.

- LIFT – upward force produced by air hitting and passing 4. Observe RHIP.

the flaps of the wings. 5. Obey first, complain later.

-WEIGHT – produced by the pull of gravity on the plane. 6. Put into practice the cadet oath.

-DRAG – this opposes the thrust & limits the plane’s speed; 7. Uphold the cadet honor code.

when thrust & drag are equal the plane remains in position. 8. Heed the Merit/Demerit system.

*Straight and Level Flight – when all forces are balanced. 9. When in doubt, salute!

Jesus Villamor

Jesus Antonio Villamor didn’t plan to be a hero. One of seven children,

he studied at De La Salle College, Manila hoping to be a businessman.

But in 1936, he joined the PAAC Flying School & then his life changed

Forever. After 3 weeks of training, this outstanding cadet was sent t us

for advance flight training, and after three, instead of four years, he soon

found himself in B-17 & B-22 cockpits as part of the US Air Force’s Strategic

Bombing Squadron. He returned to the Philippines & was chosen to lead the

6th pursuit squadron during WW2. Although overmatched against the Japanese

his squadron of P-26 fighters managed to maintain flight dogfight after dogfight.

His unit was destroyed but brave Villamor still continued his war againts the

Japanese as an intelligent officer. On Dec. 27, 1942, Villamor slipped past the

Japanese navy aboard the submarine gudgeon. As an intelligent officer, he

directly communicated with Gen. Douglas McArthur in Australia & he coordinate

D the Guerilla movements all over the Philippines. Villamor acted as a “Clearing

House” for information, which eventually allowed the US armed forces in the far

East (USAFFE) to map out a strategy to liberate the Philippines. For his gallantry

as a pilot and ingenuity as an intelligence officer, Pres. Ramon Magsaysay awarded

LTC Jesus Antonio Villamor the medal of valor on 21 Jan 1954. As a further tribute to

one of the Air Force’s greatest heroes, the PAF’s principal facility in Metro Manila has

named Col. Jesus Villamor Air Base.

History of Aviation World War 1

Early experimentation [400 BCE – 1900s] Germans – Perfected placing of guns in aircraft

Daedalus and Icarus – Start of idea of flight Growth of the Aviation Industry [1920-1935]

Count Ferdinand Von Zepellin [1930s] Louis Bleroit – first to deviate from biplane to mono

- Dirigible meaning controllable plane

George Cayley [1804] –Father of Aerodynamics & Galbraith Rogers - First transcontinental flight

Aerial Navigation Charles Lindberg – Nonstop flight: US to

UK; Medal of

Otto Lilienthal [1891] – Father of Gliders honor

Samuel P. Langley – Aerodome [1896]; Small powered World War 2

plane Frank Whittle – Designed the

first jet engine 1930

Piloted Flight -& Early Growth [1900-1920] Note:

Wilbur & Orville Wright – Kitty Hawk Flyer [17 Dec] Air Craft – Anything heavier or lighter than air that

Amelia Earhart – First woman pilot &was never found can sustain flight

Adolf Pegound – Made first inside loop Airplane – Anything heavier than air that can
sustain

Aerodynamic action

Aviation – Science &

practice of flight heavier than

Aircrafts
Basic Parts of an Airplane

Power Plant – gives energy to increase velocity; provides thrust Fuselage – central body portion [framework] of an
airplane,

* Propeller – rotating blade located in the front of the plane which accommodates the crew &
passengers or

*Engine – turns the propeller crews

*Empennage [Tail Assembly] *Cockpit – space in the fuselage for

the pilot & the passengers;

*Elevator – movable horizontal section of the tail; causes the plane contains the control instruments

to move up & down Landing Gears – supports

the plane on the ground

*Rudders – movable vertical section of the tail; causes the plane Wings – provide lift & support the entire weight of the
aircraft

to move left & right while in flight

*Ailerons – outward movable sections of the wings; used in Theory of Flight

making turns *Airfoils – a device which

gets a useful reaction from air

*Flaps – inner movable sections of the wings; controls speed moving over its surface. When an airfoil is
moved

through the air, it is capable of producing lift. Wings,

surfaces and propellers are examples

* Rolls – movement can be observed from the longitudinal of airfoils.

axis; caused by ailerons

Newton’s Law of Motion

*Pitch – movement can be seen from the lateral axis; caused 1. Law of Inertia – straight & level flight where all
forces
by elevators
acting on the plane are balanced

*Yaw – movement can be examined from the vertical axis; 2. Law of Acceleration – applied by thrust.

caused by rudders 3. Law of interaction –

thrust is counter-acted by the prag,

*Trim Tabs – small, adjustable hinged surface on the trailing lift is opposed by
weight; for every force of
