CHS FEST

BASKETBALL MECHANICS AND IRR

(MEN’S DIVISION)
• Each team shall consist of:
➢ No more than 12 team members entitled to play, including a captain and a vice-captain in those 12
team members.
➢ During playing time, 5 team members from each team shall be on the playing court
and may be substituted.

• The uniform of all team members shall consist of:

➢ Color coding of the team.
➢ All players must tuck their shirts into their playing shorts.
➢ T-shirts, regardless of the style, are not permitted to be worn under the shirts.
➢ Each team member shall wear a shirt numbered on the front and back with plain numbers, of a color
contrasting with the color of the shirt.

• All equipment used by players must be appropriate for the game except for objects that could cut or
cause abrasions e.g. jewelry (fingernails must be closely cut).

• At least 10 minutes before the game is scheduled to begin, each captain shall indicate the 5 players to
begin the game.
➢ The captain and vice-captain may communicate in a courteous manner with the officials during the
game to obtain information only when the ball is dead and the game clock is stopped.

• The game shall consist of 4 quarters of 10 minutes each.

➢ In case of an over time occurs, the game shall continue with as many over times of 5 minutes duration
each as necessary to break the tie.

• Each team may be granted:

➢ 2 time-outs during the first half.
➢ 3 time-outs during the second half with a maximum of 2 of these time-outs when the game clock
shows 2:00 minutes or less in the fourth quarter.
➢ 1 time-out during each overtime

• Unused time-outs may not be carried over to the next half or overtime and
➢ Only the captain and vice - captain has the right to request a time-out. When the captain and vice –
captain are playing during the game, then the players have the rights to request a time – out.
• If the ball is live when an injury occurs, the official shall not blow his whistle until the team in control of
the ball has shot for a field goal, lost control of the ball, withheld the ball from play or the ball has
become dead.

➢ If the injured player cannot continue to play immediately (within approximately 15 seconds) or, if he
receives treatment, he must be substituted unless the team is reduced to fewer than 5 players on the
playing court.
• A player who has committed 5 fouls shall be informed by an official and must leave the game
immediately. He shall be substituted within 30 seconds.
➢ The team foul penalty is triggered when a team commits more than four fouls in a quarter; the fifth and
subsequent team fouls will incur penalty free throws.
• All calls and violations that the referee will call will be accepted and respected by all players.
• No team shall lose by default. If a team forfeited a game, there will be a corresponding penalty for that
team.
• The 2 teams who will have the highest win record will be the teams eligible to play for the
championship game.

➢ In case of three teams have tied their won – loss record:

“Point Spread” between each of the three teams tied will determine which team is awarded first and
second places. Games in the round robin not involving the teams in the 3-way tie do not count. Point
Spread is defined as “points against subtracted from points scored.” Any 3-way ties that remain after
these calculations will then be determined by taking all games played into the Point Spread Formula.
Round Robin Scores with 3 teams tied:WinLoss
Game 1: Team A 55 Team B 5821
Game 2: Team C 40 Team A 4621
Game 3: Team B 37 Team C 4321
Tie Breaking Process:
Team A: Game 1 (-3)Game 2 (+6) Total (+3)
Team B: Game 1 (+3)Game 3 (-6)Total (-3)
Team C: Game 2 (-6) Game 3 (+6) Total (0)
According to the above example, Team A would proceed to the championship as well as Team C. Team B
would be the team that will not play for the championship game because of the tie – breaking point that
Team C garnered in the point spread formula.
➢ In case of two teams have the same won – loss record and are fighting for the 2nd spot for the
championship game:

“Win over the other” rule will be applied. This means that:
Round Robin Scores with 2 teams tied:WinLoss
Team A21
Team B21
Game: Team A 66Team B 60
Tie Breaking Process:
As seen in the example above, Team A will be emerged as the number 2 team that will fight for the
championship round even though both Team A and Team B have the same won – loss record. This is how
the “win over the other” rule is applied.
➢ The team that will have the highest total points in the finals game will be crowned as the champion for
the men’s basketball division in CHS fest.
