Okay class before we go on to our next topic. Let us Maam Jean, you presented to us pairs of pictures
review, what we discussed yesterday? and you let us identify the name of that picture that
rhymes together by saying “ yes” or “ no”.

3.1 D: Motivation:

The teacher will present a game to the class called “

Make a New Word”,. Let the pupils look at the first picture
and word. Let them form a new word by changing the first
letter of the word.

start analyzing on what is your new words to make if you
change the first letter of the given word. ( picture of a glass) ___C___ lass

Okay since you have now the idea on how to make

another word by changing the initial phonemes to make
another word out from the given pictures. So, now class Maam Jean our topic for this afternoon is all about
what do you think will be our new topic for this afternoon? Individual Phonemes ( Substituting Initial Phonemes)

Very Good. So, we will discuss on how to substitute Initial

Phonemes through the given pictures

The teacher will have a “ Picture Hunt”. She will show

another sets of pictures in the pocket chart and say “ Today
we are going to do a picture hunt”. I am going to say the
name of the object. You must come up and show me where
and what object I’m talking about. Okay Maam Jean

Now, let’s try to change the name of each pictures. So, class
let’s try to change the first letter of the word to have
another new word by:

Change /c/ to /b/ in the Cup what is the new word? Maam, Cup- Bup

Change /c/ to /m/ in the Cat what is the new word? Cat- Mat

Change /b/ to /L/ in the Bay what is the new word? Bay- Lay

Change /M/ to /L/ in the Map what is the new word? Map-Lap

Change /M/ to /D/ in the Man what is the new word? Man- Dan

Change /S/ to /P/ in the Pad what is the new word? Sad-Pad

Very Good Pupils, now what have you observed when we Maam, if we change the initial letter of each word,
change the initial letter of the word? the word also change.

Very Good, now, if we change the initial letter of the word Yes, Maam the meaning also changed.
we created a new word. Does its meaning change?

How about the sound of the two words? Does it change? No Maam,

Very Good. The sound of the new word is still the same from
the old one. They rhyme together even we change the first
letter on it.

So class, That’s Phoneme, even if we change the initial letter, Okay Maam Jean, we have now the idea on what is
the word change, the meaning change but the sound of the phonemes.

Now class, I want you to read again the words properly.
