KNOWLEDGE SHARING
RAC – ADD NODE using addNode.sh
PRECHECK: -
Before prechecks establish user equivalence with SSH setup between new node and the old nodes.
Perform below steps to do precheck before starting to add node.
Below 2 steps to run using runcluvfy which can be found in installation software.
cd /orasoft/stage/linux_x86_64bit/database_112030/grid
./runcluvfy.sh stage -pre crsinst -n flpd450,flpd451,flph733 -fixup –verbose
./runcluvfy.sh stage -post hwos -n flph733 –verbose
Below 2 commands to be run from installed ORACLE_HOME of Oracle grid.
cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
./cluvfy comp peer -refnode flpd450 -n flph733 -orainv oinstall -osdba asmdba -
verbose
check if any kernel parameter mismatch
./cluvfy stage -pre nodeadd -n flph733 -fixup -fixupdir /home/oragrid -verbose

check any major mismatch
All errors, mismatch should be resolved before proceeding to add Node.
For avoiding JAVA heap errors when performing addNode.sh
After this create all directories on 3rd node same as node 1 or 2. Update below file with parameter as
below in both Grid as well as database home to avoid Java heap errors. This is memory parameter for
JRE.
$ORACLE_HOME/oui/oraparam.ini
Change below line
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx150m"
To
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx2048m"

GRID STEPS: -
Add 3rd node to cluster using addNode.sh as below, but before proceeding export the environment
variable as below. Below command to be run from Grid user of existing cluster nodes (-flpd450)
$ export IGNORE_PREADDNODE_CHECKS=Y
$ cd $ORACLE_HOME/oui/bin
$ ./addNode.sh -silent "CLUSTER_NEW_NODES={flph733}"

INSTANCE STEPS: -
As our database is administrator managed please add instance using dbca as below (from user p1cdt2d)
from node1 flpd450
There are 2 methods for the same (silent & using GUI)
Silent method will use command as below (not sure in this case if we will need to add UNDOTBS3
tablespace & redo logs manually
DBCA using Silent command (Always run from existing node)
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbca -silent -addInstance -nodeList flph733 -gdbName p1cdt2d -

instanceName p1cdt2d3 -sysDBAUserName sys -sysDBAPassword high5me123
DBA using GUI method (Always run from existing node)
$ cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
$ ./dbca
Then follow the Window instructions as below
Welcome: - Select Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) database as the database type that you would
like to create or administer.

RAC – ADD NODE using addNode.sh

./runcluvfy.sh stage -post hwos -n flph733 –verbose

Below 2 commands to be run from installed ORACLE_HOME of Oracle grid.

./cluvfy stage -pre nodeadd -n flph733 -fixup -fixupdir /home/oragrid -verbose

All errors, mismatch should be resolved before proceeding to add Node.

For avoiding JAVA heap errors when performing addNode.sh

Change below line

TECH MAHINDRA - ODBA NILESH MAHADIK

$ ./addNode.sh -silent "CLUSTER_NEW_NODES={flph733}"

Performing tests to see whether nodes flpd451,flph733 are available

Creating /etc/oratab file...

Grid Installation is completed

The log for this operation will be present in below directory.

Performing root user operation for Oracle 11g

The following environment variables are set as:

DBCA using Silent command (Always run from existing node)

$ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbca -silent -addInstance -nodeList flph733 -gdbName p1cdt2d -

DBA using GUI method (Always run from existing node)

Then follow the Window instructions as below

Operations: - Select Instance Management.

Instance Management: - Select Add an instance.

List of cluster databases: - Enter the sys username and password.

List of cluster database instances: - Verify the existing database instances.
