    TUTORIAL CHAPTER 1: SEEPAGE ANALYSIS

    The steel sheet pile wall as shown in Figure Q1 (b) is driven to a permeable soil layer underlain
    by an impermeable stratum. The average coefficient of permeability of the permeable stratum
    is 3.50 x 10-3 cm/s. With the aid of all given data;

    (i) Calculate the flow rate, q (m3/s).


    (6 marks)
    (ii) How high (above the ground surface) the water will rise if piezometers are placed at
    points D and E.
    (6 marks)
    (iii) Calculate the approximate average hydraulic gradient at F.
    (2 marks)
    (iv) Determine the pore water pressure distribution on the upstream faces of the sheet pile
    wall.
    (10 marks)
