Operational transport modes

The roads are normally passable except in the rainy season, when there is the greatest number
of landslides that block the roads. There are few highways and most roads have only one lane.
Some roads have become quite dangerous due to the guerrilla checkpoints or common crime,
it is advisable to travel during the day.

For national transports, urban services. Freight Transportation Logistics. Deliveries of raw
materials, distribution of orders with one or multiple destinations and large frets.

There are several factors that determine the level of competitiveness of an economy such as
quality and quantity of infrastructure, institutions, macroeconomic stability, innovation
capacity, technology, among others. There are also other factors that play a decisive role in the
process of strengthening the productivity of a country and provide a valued in terms of
competitiveness in international trade. Logistics is one of these factors and is perhaps one of
the most important since it determines the transaction costs and the time the goods are
demobilized in national and international trade.

A good management of the logistics chain within a country facilitates the flow of productive
activities, increasing the productivity of national companies and therefore their
competitiveness in the global context. Taking into account the importance of logistics for the
competitiveness of an economy, we then carry out a study on the road transport sector by road
in Colombia, which represents one of the most important steps in the country's logistics chain.
First, the logistic term is defined and the role played by transport in that process is determined.
Subsequently, an analysis is made of the current situation of the land cargo transport sector by
road in the country and finally the problematic presented by the sector is addressed.

The importance of transport operations and in general of the logistic process for the companies
of a nation. Now, for the Colombian case, the role of the transport sector in the country's
economy will be determined in order to understand the importance and manner in which it
influences the economic growth of Colombia. According to the National Administrative
Department of Statistics (DANE) ), in the year 2009, the participation of the transport sector
in the National GDP was 7.8%, a percentage that has maintained an important proportion for
the country in the last decades. (Watch
Annex 1, Share of Transport GDP in total GDP)
Additionally, regarding the GDP components of Transportation Services, we can highlight that
the sub-sector Land Transportation has presented the most important participation of
transportation services. For the year 2009 was placed first with a participation of 76%, second
place was the Complementary and Auxiliary Transport (15%) and finally the Air Transport
(10%). (
See annex 2, Participation by GDP components of Transport Services, annex 3, Share of GDP
of land transport in transport GDP

The above data demonstrate the importance and at the same time the dependence that the
country presents towards land transport, and specifically towards road transport that has
become the most representative means of transport for Colombians. From 2000 to 2009 there
is sustained growth in the movement of road cargo, as shown by the figures published by the
Ministry of Transportation. Additionally, "according to the Colombian Federation of Freight
Transporters, for the first half of the year (2010) ) the tons of freight transported by road
increased 7.6%, going from 56.9 million tons in 2009 to 61.23 million tons in 2010 "

1. Congress of the Republic: Body in charge of establishing the budget of the Nation, therefore
allocates the resources destined for the road infrastructure.

2. Treasury: Responsible for the management of the country's public resources from a
budgetary and financial perspective.

3. Ministry of Transport: guarantees the development and improvement of transport, traffic

and infrastructure, in a comprehensive, competitive.
4. INVIAS: It guarantees the construction, improvement and maintenance of the non-
concessioned road infrastructure entrusted to it.

5. Industry and commerce ministry: formulates, adopts, directs and coordinates general
policies on economic and social development of the country.

6. COLFECAR: (Colombian Federation of Carriers of Cargo by Career), its mission is to

defend and represent the cargo transport industry and those who dedicate themselves to that
activity.

CONCLUSIONS

Road Freight Transportation by Road has become the most representative means of transport
for Colombians. A large number of transport companies are qualified to provide this service,
which is why there is no company with excessive market participation that can Concerning a
situation of monopoly or oligopoly. In spite of the technological and technical evolution that
the sector has played in recent decades, Colombia still has numerous shortcomings in inland
freight transport that impede the flow of goods and the economic development of the country.
