RESOLUTION URGING THE NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TO PERFORM AIR
MONITORING AT LOCATIONS IN THE CITY OF RENSSELAER

WHEREAS, The operations of the S.A. Dunn Landfill in Rensselaer has

generated many odor complaints from residents, school officials, visitors,
and neighboring communities; and

WHEREAS, The Rensselaer County Health Department contacted the New

York State Department of Health and selected several appropriate locations
around the City of Rensselaer to place air monitors for 30 to 60 days; and

WHEREAS, Data collected from these monitors would determine what

particles are in the air and if they are harmful to the public; and

WHEREAS, In July of this year the New York State Department of Health
notified the Rensselaer County Department of Health that they would not be
placing air monitors as promised earlier in the year; and

WHEREAS, Without having the air quality in the City of Rensselaer

monitored it is nearly impossible to scientifically determine if the air
quality in Rensselaer is being impacted by the operation of the S.A. Dunn
Landfill; and

WHEREAS, Residents, schoolchildren, visitors, and neighboring

communities should be assured that the dust and odors being generated from
the S.A. Dunn Landfill are not harmful to breathe every day; now, therefore
be it; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body does hereby urge the New York
State Department of Health to reverse their decision and place air
monitoring meters and equipment in areas around the City of Rensselaer;
and, be it, further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of this Legislative Body is hereby directed

to transmit a copy of this resolution to the New York State Department of
Health.
