Dear Friend,
Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ. What a
beautiful time of the year! Did you know the Lord gave us a sure-fire way of
having confidence? We read it all through the Bible. We are taught to simply
believe God. Abraham learned it and it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Plus, he was called the friend of God because he simply believed what God said!
Romans 4 is a wonderful chapter that shows us the importance of faith.
The Lord told Abraham he would be the father of many nations. And he believed
it! It was as simple as that. Was it always easy for him? No. But the Lord keeps
things simple for us. We complicate everything, don't we?
Abraham was an old man when he received that promise. It was impossible
physically for him and his wife Sarah to have children. Yet God promised to
make him a father of many nations. Abraham believed the Lord brings to life
things that are dead, and calls those things that are not as though they were. The
Scripture says, "Who against hope believed in hope..." (Romans 8:18). It
looked impossible for him to see what God promised come to pass. But he
believed in a word called "hope." Hope is to anticipate, usually with pleasure; it
is expectation with confidence. It is not wishful thinking, but expecting the
impossible to happen. It takes our eyes off our ability and places it firmly on
Him who promised. If He promised something it is now His responsibility to
perform it, not mine.
It is interesting to me that when God thinks of us His thoughts are with a
plan in mind. His thoughts aren't just passive, but when He considers us He
works all things together for the good to make us what we were intended to be.
If we will surrender our will to His will, we find that we become His
masterpiece, beloved of the Father! This is what Abraham found. The Scripture
goes on to say, "And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body
now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the
deadness of Sarah's womb:" Abraham considered the promise of God, not the
circumstances! We are too attached to the things of this world. Here was a one
hundred year old man with a ninety year old wife planning to have a baby!
This was important to him because a son would carry on the family name.
If he had no son his family line would no longer exist. But God took the control
of the line of faith out of Abraham's hands.
Abraham didn't know it, but God would use this family line to bring forth
the Messiah, the Redeemer of mankind, to rescue humanity from the harshness
and penalty of sin, which is death. Every time a person loses a loved one and
cries, our Father's heart is saddened as well. In order to stop this grief and
sorrow, the Lord devised a plan. He would come to earth in the likeness of sinful
flesh, take the penalty for all sin in His own flesh (so we would not have to die),
and raise from the dead to justify all who believe on Him. And that is exactly
what the Lord did!
The Lord Himself is our Messiah, our Redeemer, our sacrifice for sin. No
matter how "good" I become it would never stop death from claiming my life.
But thank God Jesus came. As many as believe on Him will not perish but have
eternal life because He so loves the world! (John 3:16).
Getting back to Abraham for a moment, it says, "He staggered not at the
promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to
God; And being fully persuaded that, what He had promised, He was able
also to perform" (Romans 8:20 & 21). Isn't the Lord marvelous? His plans and
thoughts towards us are beyond anything we can imagine. He left His throne to
come among us, live, die, and rise again so we could have life. Oh what a
Savior! He loves you and me! We don't have to have incredible gifts or talents.
We don't have to have education and degrees for this to be in our lives. But one
thing we do need and that is faith in Him who loves us, believing that He rose
again for our justification. Why wait and remain where you are? Open your heart
today and ask the Lord to forgive you of your sins and enter your life. He will
change you into His image. It's yours for the asking.
I invite you to our church in Torrington, CT. Our schedule of services is
Sunday at 10 am and 7 pm, and Wednesday at 7:30 pm. May God bless you
more abundantly, now and always!
Sincerely,

Rev. Daniel Bossidy
