While all of the presidential speeches, articles from the Constitution, prayers,
announcements from the Department of Education, are formal, they are also used publicly. Two
of them, the presidential speech and the announcements, are examples of formal speech styles,
since they are both one- way or they do not require any feedback. On the other hand, the other two,
the articles and the prayer, are examples of frozen speech styles for they are documents, which are
“frozen” in time or they cannot be changed. Even though they have similarities, they may differ in
the methods or manner of delivery.

In presidential speeches, such as the State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Roa
Duterte, he often uses ‘extemporaneous’ method of delivery. Since he may have a prepared outline
of his speech, but he does not plan out each of his sentences. Sometimes he gives some remarks
about a certain topic that is not in his transcript, which is prepared for him by his scriptwriter.

In an article from the Constitution, since they are from a document, its method of delivery
can be the ‘manuscript’ method, since it should be delivered word-for-word, and it uses more
complex words that is mostly written by professionals. Sometimes its matter of delivery lacks
emotions, but nevertheless, the information is conveyed concisely and accurately.

In prayers, its methods of delivery may vary according to the prayer leader, since some
uses the ‘impromptu’ method, where it is delivered in an spontaneous manner, and may offer a bit
more sincerity since it comes from the person’s mind, and it may be adjusted by the prayer leader;
others uses the ‘memorized’ method, such as praying the Lord’s Prayer, which is written entirely
and is delivered word-for-word but without notes or scripts.

Lastly, in announcements from the Department of Education, its method of delivery may
also vary according to the information that will be conveyed. Sometimes it uses the ‘manuscript’
method for more formal occasions which focuses on the information being delivered, like giving
guidelines for the voucher grantees, but sometimes they use the ‘extemporaneous’ method of
delivery since some of the speakers or the announcers adds some comments about the information,
such as announcing about certain events such as national teacher’s month.

As said above, some of them are delivered accordingly to the information, occasion, or
even the types of audience that the speaker is speaking unto.
