The curve is from low Rate of Filtration since the slurry just starts to enter and fill the filter press which
contributes to the initial amount of time. (for which, longer T lowers the Rate of Filtration). After few
seconds, the Rate of Filtration reach its peak since the filter can still absorb the cake content of the
slurry producing low viscosity filtrate. As the thickness of the cake increases, it produces more viscous
filtrate which lessens the flow rate and rate of filtration in the process.

The graph shows a linear relationship between the volume of filtrate and the time of filtration. This tells
that they are directly proportional. But it is noticeable that the initial volume of flow rate is slightly
sloping upward compared to the edge or final part of the curve. This is due to the increase in viscosity of
the filtrate as the process continues. Viscosity decreases the volumetric flow rate which causes the
curve to slope downwards.

Filter performance can be analyzed by the graph shown by determining the specific cake resistance and
the degree of compressibility. It is shown in the graph that pressure affects the rate of filtration. Since
the filter is initially acquiring high pressure because of low cake thickness content, the filtrate volume
will increase rapidly which leads the time over filtrate from the curve to fall. As the filters obtain cake,
the resistance will increase which blocks the pressure supplied. The flow rate of the filtrate will start to
slow down which leads to an increase in the ratio of time over filtrate volume from the curve. This
shows that increasing the pressure supplied will increase the rate of filtration.
