As part of the continuing innovation in education with the integration of technology, the Department of Education, Schools Division of Ilocos Norte finally adapts World Possible’s RACHEL-Pi, project term for Remote Access Community Hotspot for Education and Learning based from the Raspberry Pi technology which can be used as open educational resources in remote places where the internet is unavailable. Moreover, the said RACHEL servers deliver free educational content from the web directly to the classrooms, library, or another learning environment without the need for internet to access an enormous collection of quality materials including Wikipedia, Khan Academy (KA Lite), and other sites under the OER2Go, a collection of the world's best Open Educational Resources, repackaged for free download and offline use. Furthermore, the latest version of the RACHEL-Pi comes complete and ready- to-use for serving RACHEL content for approximately 10 computers or tablets simultaneously, depending on usage. In its goal to deliver the best IT services to the schools, a one-day training and orientation on the functions and proper use of the RACHEL PI devices configured by the Information Technology experts of the SDOIN, Mr. Almadin Domingo, ITO 1 and Mr. Kenneth Tabios, Master Teacher II, was done at the SDOIN Conference last July 27 where the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) coordinators from the 17 IPED (Indigenous People Education) and 47 Multi- grade Schools of the division were initially selected as first recipients of the said project, though other interested schools to adapt the technology have already been accommodated by the ITO. Moreover, SDOIN ITO Almadin discussed necessary concepts on the setup configurations of the Rachel Pi device followed by a thorough discussion on the Pedagogical Strategies utilizing RACHEL for teaching using the SAMR and KUD Models by Tabios. This priority project of the division on upgrading the schools on the use of technology is part of the technology plan presented to the different schools in the schools division of Ilocos Norte under the initiative of the Schools Division Superintendent, Mrs. Vilma D. Eda.
