3 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

3.1 General Guidelines

 Locate the dryer’s rear mounting holes (nearest motor) a minimum of 10” from any rear wall or overhead
obstruction less than 75” high.

 Mount Dryers to allow for proper disposal of extracted liquids.

 Allow 48” between dryer centers in multiple dryer layouts.

3 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

3.2 Floor Mounting Procedure

1) Set the Dryer in place with a pipe

spacer/rubber isolator under each 1
2" NUT
foot.

2) The pattern provided in Figure 3.0 WASHER

may be used to locate the mounting

holes; however, a more reliable
method is to use the Dryer base
plate holes as a drill guide.

3) Drill ½” diameter holes in concrete TOP PLATE

floor for wedge anchors.
1
2" x 512" ANCHOR BOLT
Caution: Do not drill all the way RUBBER
through the concrete floor. Clean ISOLATORS

out the holes with compressed air

PIPE SPACER
or wire brush and blow out bulb. Figure 3.1
4) Install wedge anchor bolts into each hole.

5) Place remaining rubber isolator and top plate over the pipe spacers at each foot.

6) Install washer and nut onto each wedge anchor bolt and tighten the nut until the top plate is tight against
the top of the pipe spacers. This should compress the rubber isolators about 1/8” to 3/16” each, and will
provide a vibration cushion between the dryer and the floor.

3.3 Electrical Hook-Up:

The SD50-LT is shipped without a plug in order to provide the customer the flexibility to provide the desired
receptacle needed for factory installation. A NEC 05 fusible disconnect must be installed within sight of the
dryer.

NOTE: It is the customer’s responsibility to wire to OSHA guidelines and per

local wiring codes.

3.4 Preparation Before Start-Up:

Activate the grease cartridges at the rear of the dryer by turning the dial on top with a 3mm Allen wrench. If you
are using your dryer daily HMI recommends that you set the dial to the #2 setting. See section 7.3 for further
information.

4 COMMON INSTALLATION AND OPERATION ERRORS TO AVOID:

Please read the following list of precautionary notes for your operator’s safety and to ensure
your Spin Dryer will serve you to its maximum potential:

1) Do not fill the plastic tote basket more than half full of product and a maximum of 50 pounds. If this
basket is filled to the top, the load will be unsupported and can result in excessive vibration of the dryer.
Excessive vibration can cause damage to the dryer and/or cause the anchors to be pulled from their
positions.

2) Do not over tighten the drive belt on your dryer. Over tightening the drive belt can result in belt breakage
and main bearing damage.

3) Do not operate your dryer if the lid

ACTUATOR
. safety system is not operating
correctly. If you do so, it may result in a
safety hazard. The lid safety is functioning
correctly if the dryer will not start with the lid
open, and shuts the dryer off when the lid is
opened while the dryer is running. The lid
sensor utilized for the SD50-LT consists of
an actuator and a switch (see Figure 4.0).
NOTE: A minimum sensing distance must
be maintained between the actuator and
switch. The sensors must remain in the
position shown to insure that the signal is SWITCH
given to allow the Dryer to run.
Figure 4.0
4) Be sure the power source for the dryer matches the dryer specification.
The SD50-LT is produced for various power sources, and an incorrect
hookup could result in damage to your dryer and/or a safety hazard.

5) The SD50-LT is delivered with a maximum speed set for 680 RPM. This standard speed is designed for
running lettuce products. Damage to your product may occur if your dryer’s speed is too high for the
product in question.

6) Do not alter the program parameters of the Variable Frequency Drive (except for those covered in the
Fine Tuning Sections) without first consulting with an HMI representative. The operational parameters of
this unit control many of the dryer’s safety features.

7) Do not disconnect the power from the dryer while the dryer is running.

8) Do not open the dryer lid while the dryer is turning. Opening the lid while the dryer is turning will cause
the brake to activate and the rotation will slow to a stop.

9) Your VFD is located in a cold room and the condensation that forms on the warm components may cause
electrical problems. Make sure the condensation drain is clear and water does not build up in VFD area.

NOTE: It is very important that your Dryer bearings be greased daily with a food grade
grease. See 7.3 for Automatic Lubrication.
