Introduction

There are a lot of schools all over the world, having countless students attending them.
According to NCES, 2018 about 56.6 million of different students, excluding tertiary students,
have attended schools. Diversed individuals striving for their to achieve their dreams by means
of completing the academic chapters of their lives. But The World Bank, 2019, claimed that
going to school is different from learning. This claim was supported by Rueckert, 2019, when he
said that some schools lack teacher that had training that can help students learn effectively.
In Asia, which is known to have the most populations, also have a large sum of students. This
creates an idea that there could be problems that schools in Asia face, and in reality, there are.
According to Maclean and Ordonez, 2000, there at least one-third of all that were enrolled
abandon or drop out before completing the primary cycle. This says that in every six students
only four of them move on to a higher academic level. But, that doesn't mean that they
experienced an effective learning session.
Going deeper in Asia, specifically in Southeast Asia, improving the quality of education is a
major problem faced by several countries (Sadiman, 2004). It is a fact that students must strive
in order to have passing grades, but there are times that teachers make mistakes as well. This
creates a debate on whose fault is it if a student fails. Talbert, 2008, quoted that teachers must
beware of applying a student's behavior to another. Additionally, Sadiman, 2004, said that
having teacher that are not just knowledgeable and innovative, but are highly disciplined and
strongly motivated is a must for a school.
Philippine is a country not new to such problems with both the students and teachers. ImbaLife,
2017, stated that Philippines is facing the challenges of education relating to its quality and
relevance. Though influenced by Spain, America, and Japan, the educational quality of the
Philippines is falls below the top 20 countries with the best education systems (eBlogfa, 2019).
The problems related to the relevance of education in the Philippines includes the "mismatch" of
job and completed course or program. But, before a student graduates from college, he/she must
undergo 2 more years of high school.
Relevant to the problems experienced by the Filipinos, there are the so called "visual learners",
"interpersonal learners" and "intrapersonal learners". These kinds of learners require different
teaching approach in order to learn efficiently. The visual learners are those that learn through
the use of visual materials that allow them to see the flow of discussions, and the lessons as well.
They would rather look at charts and graphs, if available, than listen to the entire discussions.
Furthermore, the interpersonal learners are the students that rather work and/or learn with other
people to understand the lessons better and efficiently. On the contrary, intrapersonal learners are
those that prefer to study alone. It's similar to the people called "introverts".
Now that the Philippines has adapted the K-12 curriculum, problems with the relevance of
education occurs sooner than before because after graduating from high school, it could be
uncertain that the track and/or strand that the student took for two years will be appropriate when
he/she goes to college. Similarly, the quality of the education could be a problem as well due to
lack of experienced teachers when it comes to senior high school students. This poses lots of
questions like "Did the student want the strand?", "Is the student up to the challenges the track
they chose?", and "What learning style should the teacher use towards the children if the answer
to the earlier questions is 'no'?". These are just some of the questions that should be answered
before and during classes in senior high schools. That's why the researcher came up with the title
"Learning Style Preferences and Academic performance of GAS 11" to see how significant the
difference the learning style in terms of visual, interpersonal and intrapersonal towards the
academic performances in terms of quarterly assessments, recitation and quizzes of the students
taking the General Academic Strand.
Research Questions

This study tries to determine and analyze the relationship of the Learning Style
Preferences and Academic Performance.
Specifically, it seeks answers to the following questions.

1. What is the perception of the student respondents on the extent of Learning Style Preferences
in terms of:
1.1 Visual,
1.2 Interpersonal,
1.3 Intrapersonal?
2. What is the perception of the student-respondents on the level of Academic Performance in
terms of:
2.1 Quarterly Assessment,
2.2 Recitation,
2.3 Quizzes?
3. Is there a significant relationship between Learning Style Preferences and Academic
Performance of Gas 11 at EMA EMITS College Philippines for S.Y. 2019-2020
Scope and Limitation of the Study
