JOB ROTATION
Such transfers are made to expose an employee to
all types of jobs. It increases versatality of an
mployee from one job to another and from one
department to another. .

INTER-PLANT TRANSFERS
When a transfer is made from one plant to another
to facilitate or punish an employee, it's called an inter
plant transfer. .

Policy
The HR personnel of a company need to follow a strict transfer policy. This
means that there should be a strong policy reason behind the transfer of any
employee and they cannot just transfer employees for the sake of it.
A strong transfer policy must contain the following points:
Circumstances under which transfers can be made
Basis of transfer, either seniority or ability or both.
Responsibilty of initiating and approving the
transfers
Pay to be received by transferee
Assurance about keeping seniority intact.

There should be a promotion policy in every organisation to
motivate the employees for higher productivity. The ladders of
promotion should be clearly defined and communicated to the
employees.
The promotion policy must consider the merit, potential for
advancement and seniority of the employees.

CRITERION OF PROMOTION:

Merit as the base of promotion


The 'ability criterion' ignores the value of experience. The employees, in this case,
know that competence is the only basis for getting promotion.
Here, the ability of the employee may be judged by written or oral tests, personal
interviews and records of performance.

Seniority as the base of promotion
The seniority or the length of service put in by an employee is an objective
and verifiable basis of promotion. This method is used to overcome the
difficulties and problems associated with merit as a basis.
