Although the focus in this chapter is on the developement of English Proficirncy , it is important
to point out that language proficiency is not necessarily the only or even the most important
barrier to academic success among ELS depending on the background of specific children or
group of els thier academic success can be Jeoporalized by issues related such factors as poverty
poor health trauma linked to immagratio.

the quality of education materials instruction and cirruculum teachers attitude and in adequate
teachers. Preparation individuals els can experience a number of defferent challenges

The question of how long it does or should take Els to achieve proficiency in English so they
can benefits from participation in classroom in which english is the language of instruction has
