Twenty is Special Day

Before I was twenty
The cloth that I like to use is white and grey
Look white and grey but the feel like rainbow clearly
I am full of spirit like fire but I burn all the way
I am very busy
To find the identity without care it’s out of the way
When I am twenty
The first day feel long day like as waiting a plane delay
I begin to realize, “ohh I was too busy”
Too busy to find the identity and forget to stay
Forget about the earth were getting old quickly
In the end, seventeen is sweet but twenty is special day
 Analysis of Poem “Twenty is Special Day ”

a. Meaning and idea of the poem

The poem above is about self-reflection on the first day when I was twenty years old. The
author tells the difference between the 20th birthday and the previous birthday. One
difference is at the first day feels very long and every minute is full of self-reflection. The
write wants to convey sometimes we are too busy becoming adults and looking for identity
and we forget that people around us are getting older

b. Figurative language of the poem

In the First Stanza, it explains about the author’s feeling before twenty years old
The first line “Before I was twenty”,
Second line “The cloth that I like to use is white and grey”
In this line uses figurative language symbol, as we know “the cloth white and grey” has
meaning moment in Senior high school.
Third line “Look white and grey but the feel like rainbow clearly”
In this line uses figurative language simile. The author would like to convey that the high
school period is the most beautiful moment and colorful moment like the rainbow.
Fourth line “I am full of spirit like fire but I burn all the way”
In this line also uses figurative language simile. The author wants to convey that during
high school it is a youth full of enthusiasm but that enthusiasm makes him too selfish to do
anything for his own pleasure even though it was not very profitable for himself.

In the second stanza tells about transition to the twenty 20 years old
The first and second line in the second stanza.
“I am very busy”
“To find the identity without care it’s out of the way”
Before his twenty, the writer was only busy and focus with his activities.
The third and fourth stanza
“When I am twenty”
“The first day feel long day like as waiting a plane delay”
 This lines tells the first day of his twenty and in the fourth line in the second stanza uses
simile. The author feels that day feels longer than other days.
The third stanza
“I begin to realize, “ohh I was too busy”
“Too busy to find the identity and forget to stay”
The first and second line, which is to tell the essence of reflection about how busy he is
with activities and that makes him forget about the people around him

“Forget about the earth were getting old quickly”

In this line uses symbol, “the earth” where we are born and grow, the earth here is symbol
of Mom and Dad. So much self-reflections but there was one thing that made him feel the
most regret is because of his always busy with the activities he forgets his father and mother
were getting old. Even though they always support you but sometimes we forget about
them.

“In the end, seventeen is sweet but twenty is special day”

In the end the writer understood about one thing, the birthday of seventeenth is often
known as sweet seventeen, because age seventeenth is sweet and colorful but become
twenty years old is different and it makes twenty is special day.
