EA for the Proposed STP

PREFACE

Dindigul Municipality has proposed to establish a 13.65 MLD capacity Sewage Treatment
Plant (STP) with Activated Sludge Process (ASP) at Pallapatti Village, Dindigul District, TamilNadu
as part of the underground sewerage scheme to cater to the infrastructural needs of the
Municipality.

Dindigul city is a Municipality in Tamil Nadu state of Southern India. It is the administrative
headquarters of Dindigul district. It is also known as "The City of Locks and Tannery", and is a fast
growing tier-4 city in India. It is attracting a great deal of education sector investments. The city also
houses a large number of Textiles spinning Mills.

The Project is implemented under third Tamil Nadu Urban Programme financed by
International Development Agency. The infrastructure will extend throughout many parts of the
town where pipes for new secondary and tertiary sewer networks (approx. 93 Km) will be buried
within or alongside of roadways. A new trunk sewer for 1 Km will be laid alongside of the main road.

M/s. Pure Enviro Engineering Pvt Ltd., Chennai, have been retained by Dindigul
Municipality, to undertake Environmental Assessment (EA) and preparation of an Environmental
Management Plan (EMP) for various environmental components which are likely to be affected due
to the construction and operation of the Sewage Treatment Plant. This report is based on the
studies and observations made on the site details, Water, Soil, and Noise pollution sources, and
suggestions of suitable control measures and Environmental Management Plan. The co-operation
and assistance rendered by Dindigul Municipality authorities in the preparation of this report is
gratefully acknowledged.
