Teacher’s Pack
Support the materials from the Activity and Reading Books with concise
teaching notes and practical activity suggestions, based on a mastery
approach.
• Gain clarity on the mastery approach and how it works to embed understanding
of communication, language and literacy skills in the Early Years setting with
clear background information
• Introduce, practise and consolidate the objectives covered in the Activity and
Reading Books with practical activities, including success criteria linked to the
Early Learning Goals that are covered
• Link across all resources in the series with ease using references to the relevant
pages in the Activity and Reading Books
• Save time planning lessons and support activities with photocopiable resources
What is Mastery?
It’s a teaching strategy that aims to ensure that learners reach a prescribed level of understanding,
being secure in their knowledge of a concept or competent in a skill, before moving on to the next
element of learning.
This series has not been through the Cambridge International endorsement process.
Story Books
Explore, support and consolidate Early Years Mathematics with colourful, simple
Story Books for ages 4-5, concepts and practice opportunities.
• Support learners with a brightly illustrated story and simple text, linked to the
topics covered in the Activity Books and the Teacher’s Resource Pack
• Practise key mathematical concepts with simple question prompts embedded in
the story, and activities at the end of the book
• Provide extra support at home or in the classroom with advice and tips about the
Early Learning Goals covered in the story for use by parents or teachers

● Extend the activities by asking learners to think of things that they do which use more than
Background information one sense.
This set of activities focuses on body parts. Many learners know basic body parts such as arm, leg and
head, but do not know other features such as, for example, nail, wrist, knuckle and thumb on the hand.
Use a wide range of ‘body’ vocabulary in these activities. For example, when learners play with dough,
ask which part of their hand they use to change the shape of the dough, for example, thumb or palm. Success criteria
In active games, ask which part of the body learners use to jump, run and throw. This helps to reinforce
knowledge of body parts and the corresponding vocabulary. While completing the activities, assess and record learners who can:
Introduce the senses by linking body parts to the five senses (sight, taste, hearing, touch and smell). ● name parts of the body
