Question 01:
Find out the force needed to speed up a car with
rate of 5ms-2, if the mass of the car is 1000kg?

Answer:

DATA:
According to question:

Acceleration = (a) = 5m/s 2 and

Mass = (m) = 1000 kg

We have to Find:

Force = (F) =?

SOLUTION:
We know that:

Force = Mass x Acceleration =˃ F = m x a

By putting the values from DATA:

F = 1000 kg x 5m/s 2

F = 5000 kg m/s 2

Therefore, required Force (F) is:

Force = F = 5000 m/s 2 or 5000 N (Answer)

Question 02:
If the mass of a moving object is 50kg, what force will
be required to speed up the object at a rate of 2m -2?

Answer:

DATA:
According to the question:

Acceleration = (a) = 2ms - 2 and

Mass = (m) = 50 kg

We have to Find:

Force = (F) =?

SOLUTION:
We know that:

Force = Mass x Acceleration =˃ F = m x a

By putting the values from DATA:

F = 50 kg x 2 m/s 2

F = 100 kg m/s 2

Hence, required Force (F) is:

Force = F = 100 m/s 2 or 100 N (Answer)

(Q#3)After applying a force of 1000N an object

of mass 2000kg will achieve what acceleration?
Answer:

DATA:
According to the question:
Mass = (m) = 2000 kg and
Force = (F) = 1000N,

We have to Find:
Acceleration = (a) =?

SOLUTION:
We know that:

Force = Mass x Acceleration =˃ F = m x a

By putting the values from DATA:

Therefore, required Acceleration (a) is:

Acceleration = a = 0.5 ms -2 (Answer)

(Q#4)A car of mass 200 kg moving at 36km/h is

brought to rest after it covered a distance of
10m. Find the retarding force acting on the car?

Answer:

DATA:

According to the question:

Mass of the car = (m) = 200 kg

Initial speed = (Vi) = 36 km/h = 10 m/s

Final velocity = (Vf) = 0

Distance covered = (S) = 10 m

We have to Find:

Retarding force = (F) =?

SOLUTION:

We know that:

Force = Mass x Acceleration =˃ F = m x a

But First we Find Acceleration (a) so:

5

We know also that:

2aS = Vf2 – Vi2

By putting the values from DATA:

2 x a x 10 = (0)2 - (10)2
20 a = - 100
a = - 100/20
a = - 5 m/s2

Now We know that:

F=mxa

By putting the values:

F = 200 x - 5

F = -1000 N

Hence, required Retarding Force (F) is:

Retarding Force = (F) = -1000 N (Answer)

Question 05:
A certain force exerted for 1.2 second raises the speed of
an object from 1.8m/s to 4.2m/s. Later the same force is
applied for 2 seconds. How much does the velocity change
in 2 seconds?

Answer:

DATA:

According to the question:

Initial velocity = (Vi) = 1.8 m/s.

Final velocity = (Vf) = 4.2 m/s

First Time = (t1) = 1.2 seconds

Second Time = (t2) = 2 seconds

We have to Find:

Velocity change in 2 seconds = ∆V =?

7

SOLUTION:

First of all we calculate Acceleration (a):

We know that:

a = ∆V/t 1
a = (V f -V i )/t 1

By putting the values from DATA:

a = (4.2 - 1.8) / 1.2

a = 2 m/s2

As the same force acts for the next two seconds the acceleration
produced will be the same. The final velocity in the first case will now
become the initial velocity.

We have to calculate the final velocity at end of 2 seconds with same Force
applied.

Now we have:
Acceleration = (a) = 2 m/s2
Initial velocity = (Vi) = 4.2 m/s

Second Time = t2 = 2 s

Therefore we have to find:

Final velocity (Vf) =?

8

We also know that:

[First equation of motion]

Vf = Vi + a x t2

By putting the values:

Vf = 4.2 + 2 x2

Vf = 4.2 + 4

Vf = 8.2 m/s

Change in velocity in two seconds is:

∆V = Vf - Vi
By putting the values:

∆V = 8.2 - 4.2

∆V = 4 m/s
Hence:

Velocity change in 2 seconds = ∆V is:

Velocity change in 2 seconds = ∆V = 4 m/s (Answer)
