Being able to assist is a privilege for us as young aspiring students for it teaches us

how to be concerned with those who are really in need. It helps us realize that we are
still lucky despite the unwanted events that are happening, it also helps us understand
the spirit of compassion and what it feels when we portion what we have so others can
also benefit. Sharing helps conceal buried selfishness within us. As a need for our
Accounting Synthesis subject, we conducted a free will activity wherein we had given
selected mendicants around Session Road and Burnham park a breakfast meal which
was bought at the King’s College of the Philippines canteen.

The simple plan was organized by the group members of the said subject and
was started by asking for God’s presence and worked as one towards the success of
the activity. We had chosen giving food to the mendicants because it is the easiest
and most helpful thing we know as students to help since we are also busy attending
classes and doing requirements for our other subjects. One implication we have
noticed is that even in developed cities, there are still mendicants and some of them
were selective on what to receive. They [mendicants] really prefer money than ready
to eat foods.

At exactly 11: 30 am on September 16, we started giving meals along session

road and later on at Burnham Park. Seeing the smile on the faces of those who had just
received what we gave makes us realize how lucky we are in so many ways and one of
it is that we have been given the opportunity to study. At around 3:00 pm we headed
our way back to school to prepare for our next class. All of us had worked together for
this activity to be successful and at the same time enjoyed helping other people.

Planning this kind of activity is not easy. It really needs enough time to plan and
sufficient budget so that it would be successful. Cooperation and good understanding
between people is also a must when doing such activities mainly because you can’t
work altogether when there is someone who doesn’t participate. To sum it up, Anne
Frank said “ no one has ever become poor by giving”.
