Shani Dev is the judge as per his role.

He does his duty best by giving

punishments as per our good or bad doings. We need not be worried if our acts
are good. He is kind also, he will teach life lessons to everyone which will be
remembered forever.
Worshiping Hanuman or Shiva is said to reduce his effect to some extent.

Shani Dev is considered to be the Disciplinarian among all gods. He is supposed

to be very strict and stubborn and so everybody even the Gods are scared of
him.

Nobody is perfect. Everybody has certain faults. Some may be too emotional,
Some may be too proud for the their own good or the others, Some may be
blind in love and may not be able to see faults in the ones they love etc…
Since the ultimate goal of all souls is to attain moksha, such negativity causes
hindrance in the path to attain the same.Since Shani Dev is Disciplinarian, it
falls to his lot, to discipline us by

1. pointing out our mistakes,

2. Correcting them, by teaching us lessons through life,
3. And, setting trials and obstacles to test the extent of the lesson learned
by us.
4. If we fail, the cycle continues until we learn our lesson completely.
So basically, he is the teacher, who helps us to perfect ourselves, by letting us
make our decisions and learning form the consequences of those decision.

We are like unpolished Diamonds, He just cuts and polishes us so that our inner
brilliance can shine through.

Part II :
Raavana was a great scholar and astrologer. He had his Father-in-Law
Mayasura (Architect of Asuras; equivalent to Vishwakarma), to built a place
where he could capture and contain the 9 planets of Vedic astrology. Doing so,
would made Ravan powerful enough to control the destiny of all entities, as the
9 planets determine the fates of all.
Hanuman was able to break into this prison, and free all the 9 planet gods, so all
of the collectively blessed Hanuman, that anyone who worshiped Hanuman,
would cease to suffer the ill effects of any planets. That is why Shani Dev
doesnot harm anybody who worships Mahavir.
