Welcome to DriveWindow 1.41

Welcome to DriveWindow, Commissioning and


Maintenance Tool for the next generation drives and
application controllers. This book gives you an
overview of DriveWindow and will help you to get
started successfully.
DriveWindow offers you a powerful component
structure. With it, enhanced flexibility is achieved to
enable you to work simultaneously with as many
different products and communication systems as you
need. The look and feel of the program always
remains an easy platform to make you familiar with the
products once and for all.
Getting More Online Help is essential in learning and managing
Help DriveWindow. There are many ways of getting it when
using DriveWindow. You can always press function
key F1 to browse the contents of the Online Help or
select the needed Help File from the program's Help
menu. A procedure specific help is instantly available,
if you see a button labelled Help.
Don't be afraid of using Online Help. It is the most
powerful way of solving problems.
Installing and Uninstalling DriveWindow

This chapter gives you a quick overview of getting


started with DriveWindow.

System To operate DriveWindow, your computer must meet


the following hardware and software installed:

Installing The software installation copies all necessary files


DriveWindow from the delivery CD-ROM to the user specified drive
and directory. The set-up program prompts you to
install the software to a directory called
\ABBTools\DRIWIN, but you can change the directory
to whatever you like. Note: The directory name cannot
be longer than 8 characters. The set-up program also
create a working directory. The contents of this
directory are displayed in the System Configuration
Display.
The installation creates an DriveWare DriveWindow
group in the Program Manager and the DriveWindow
icon can now be found in that group. You can also
change the group to whatever you like.
To start the set-up program:
1. Close all other programs.
2. Uninstall any previous version of DriveWindow by
opening the Control Panel window and clicking on
“Add/Remove Programs”. Select DriveWindow
and click on “Add/Remove.

3. Insert the DriveWindow CD-ROM into the


appropriate CD-ROM drive.
4. Open the Control Panel window, click on
“Add/Remove Programs”icon and select Install.
5. Follow the instructions given by the Set-up
program.
6. Select Properties of DriveWindow shortcut, select
shortcut tab. Make sure “Run in Separate
Memory Space” is selected and click on OK.

Uninstalling The uninstaller allows the application to be easily


DriveWindow uninstalled if you no longer want to keep the
application on the hard disk and want to retrieve all
the used disk space. You can launch the uninstallation
program by opening Control Panel window, click on
“Add/Remove Program”, select DriveWindow and
Press Add/Remove button. This allows you to cleanly
remove all the changes that were made during the
installation and set-up process. If you have created
your own DriveWindow files, e. g. Monitor files, they
are not removed; thus updating the program is easy.
Note: Never delete DriveWindow files manually unless
they were created by you.
Getting Started

This chapter guides you to get access to the drives


using communication networks.
How Do I Run The program is started by double-clicking the
DriveWindow? DriveWindow icon. At start, DriveWindow prompts you
to confirm use of every installed Communication
System.
By pressing OK you choose a network be used, and
by pressing Cancel, you place it aside for this
session. If you press Cancel for all of the networks,
DriveWindow is started without any active
Communication System. If there are any problems
installing a chosen network, you are immediately
notified.

System DriveWindow automatically scans all of the chosen


Configuration networks and presents you all of the encountered
devices to give you a powerful overview of the system
you are connected to.
Control Panel Control Panel presents a tailored way of accessing
essential control and status information of the device
that is currently clicked active from the System
Configuration tree view.
Using DriveWindow Tools

DriveWindow offers several efficient Tools for powerful


control and maintenance of connected drives and
controllers. Some devices support all of the Tools,
while some support only few of them. If a Tool
selection is disabled from the Tools menu and you
can not press the corresponding button from the bar,
you know that the Tool is not available.
You can save each Tool contents to a file that you can
later view when ever you have DriveWindow installed.

Parameter Parameter and Signal Tool displays a full set of device


specific data either in online or offline mode to check,
and Signal Tool
study and change the numerical parameters.
Hexadecimal, decimal and binary forms are available.
Monitor Tool Graphical interface for monitoring digital and analog
signals enables a smooth trend view with a huge
history buffer that you can always scroll backwards
and forwards. Comparing two graphs is easy by
merging them together. Click the view and you get the
exact numerical values. Be free to zoom in and out.
Data Logger Data Logger is very useful for very fast and accurate
Tool events. Several triggering conditions and high
frequencies offer a versatile way of tracing something
you can't see on the Monitor. Merging Data Logger
graphs, zooming and checking numerical values is
available.
Fault Logger
Fault Logger displays a fault history. You can easily
Tool clear the Logger, update the logger or reset the fault.
Application Application Tools presents the pin values in order to
Tool debug application and force constants.
