Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

This chapter is consist of the introduction, conceptual frameworks, statement of the problem, significance of

the study, scope and delimitation, definition of terms and references.

Family is a single word with many different meanings. People have many ways of defining a family and

what being a part of a family means to them. What every family has in common is that the people who call it a

family are making clear that those people are important in some way to the person calling them his family.

Some teenagers candefine a family as their best friend, teacher, classmate and people who will always be there

for them. But some other teenagers defined it as their enemy, problem, heartache and most hated people in their

life because of being into a broken family.A broken family is defined as a family that has split or separated due

to a variety of reasons that we will know in the next part of this research. Broken homes can cause children to

question their self- worth, to experience unnecessary grief, guilt and confusion. It can affect their whole life,

especially in their studies and in their emotions.Being into a broken family gives a lot of effects in a teenager.

The one who should support and be there for them are the one who hurts their feeling. This leads to children

being raised by single parents, stepparents or others not related to the biological parents.The study is primarily

focused on the impact of broken family among the teenagers and students. In this study, we will focus on the

behavior of the students in school and how it affected their lives. We will be stating facts and other information

about the teenagers being into a broken family. Our main point in our studies are simple, to learn about the

effects of being into a broken family among teenagers and anything else about it.

Causes of Broken Family Parents’ divorce: In anytime, anywhere and anyhow, divorce is not healthy for the

family life. But it happens. Divorce is claimed to be the main reason behind broken family. The common

disputes between a husband and a wife are the financial issue, sexual misunderstanding, early marriage, teen

pregnancy, education, health problem, etc. When the parents get divorced, usually either of them or sometime

both of them leave home. Then the absence of either or both the parents will affect the family administration,

then family become broken. Divorce is the hardest challenge that can happen to a couple especially if they have

kids. It is painful for the husband and wife to finally end their marriage but they are two matured individuals

who are strong enough to handle changes in their lives. The impact of this turn of events in a family’s life is

more devastating on the children.

Death: It is obvious that death reduces the family strength. More adversely death sometime leads to broken

family. Like other reason all death in the family do not necessarily bring any broken, but by the death of mother

or father children become mother/father less. When children realize that the parent will never return, they get

emotionally disturbed. Moreover if the left partner live a drastic life in search of happiness after losing his/her

partner, the results in the family could not be hale and hearty for the family life. Then it starts to be broken. In

early life, loss of mother is more damaging than loss of the father. The mother plays a very important role in

nurturing the child during the formative years of life. But as the children grow older, loss of the father is often

more serious than loss of the mother, especially for boys. Sometimes mother may lack the time and energy to

give children the care they need as she has double burden of homemaking and bread-earning. But if children

loss both parents, the effects are doubly serious. Misconception between family members: Apart from divorce

parents and death, there can be a family problem caused by misconception between the members in the home.

The reason may be differ from each other. However the most common reasons are drugs, abusing, drinking

alcohol, misbehavior manner and doing other intoxicant things by the father, sons or any other members. Then

there comes misconception, ruining and anger, which in turn caused breaking the relationship of himself and

herself from the family. Unconditional administration: Failure in administration in the family is one cause for

the breaking up of family. If the father or mother or any other heads fail to administer, there will be problems

among the members of the family. They will be free to do whatever and however they like in the home and

outside. Then the unsystematic and improper living will affect the remaining relationship in the family. If the

relationship has been worsening, there will definitely be losing of caring which can lead to broken in the family.

Parental or friends influence: Another reason why a family has broken up is because of parental or friends

influence. When a third party has involved itself in the matters inside the home, bad-mouthing will just likely to

happen and misunderstanding will only grow worse. Everyone has friends; we used to share our problems with

them. But there can be negative impact. To whom we thought helps will come, another unexpected advice may

come. Many a time, broken family, particularly splitting up of parents took place due to the influences made by

our friends.

Similarly,Broken families have ravaged the Philippine society becoming far more rampant in this era due to

the degradation of morals, value and mindset of the Filipino population. The modern society has lessened the

absolute value of a family as a common unit of a community and society. The importance of the Family is that it

is the atom of society; it is what builds and starts community from scratch. Without the basic structure of a

family, society degrades. The psychological impact of a broken family to a child is very damaging and one of

the main causes of depression, anxiety and more mental issues. This can also affect the view and approach of

other people to the certain individual giving them a harder time to socialize, communicate or commit unto a

relationship. Mostly the reason for a broken family is infidelity from both genders. This can only accumulate

unto a number of reasons of which why they commit infidelity.

Joseph H. Rankin said that,although the empirical evidence on the effects of family structure (specifically

the issue of “broken homes”) on delinquency is substantial and varied, the research base seems incomplete and

inconclusive. Very few incontrovertible generalizations can currently be stated; more specific statements

regarding important variations across persons, types of delinquency, and family context are very tentative and

approximate with inconsistent support.

Ruksana Saika(2017) said that family is said to be the first institution where one starts to equip oneself to

grow. But differences have been found to each family. Having healthy and happy family is what everyone’s

dream. But many could not succeed it. Due to different problems, the healthy families have been broken up as

well. When unwanted things are coming up, many families have been broken, and the members are separated.

This is a tragic happening out of unrestricted reasons as well as unfortunate reasons. When we say broken

family, it is not distinct and strange thing, rather common and experiencing problem in and around us. Family

life is in a crisis when some problems aroused and which causes separation of the members in the families,

which is simply called broken family.

This research aims to determine the most observed reasons why some families are broken or parents are

separated.

Conceptual Frameworks

The Input Process Output Method. In the IPO MODEL,a prosess was viewed as series of boxes

(process,elements) connected inputs and outputs. Information or material object flow through a series tasks or

activities based on set of rules or decisions point (Harris & Taylor). Flow charts and process diagrams were

often used to represent the process (Harris & Taylor). What goes in the output, what caused the change of

process, what comes out the output.

Statement of the Problems

This study aims that to determine most observed reason behind broken family or separation of parents

answered by Grade 10-Bonifacio 2 S.Y. 2019-2020 at PHS. Specially, it seeks to answer the following;

1. What are the different reasons behind broken families or separation of parents?

2. Which of these reasons is mostly experienced by the families?

a. because of third party

b. because of financial problem

c. because of misunderstanding

d. because of lack of consensus or unity

Significance of the Study

The findings of this study benefited the following:

Parents- through this study, parent need to be aware of what are the possible effects to the chidren having a

separation of their guardian status.

Teacher- through this study, teacher considered as second parent and they might know the status or condition of

their students.

Reader- through this study, reader get an information related to separation of guardians and the effect to those

children.

Researcher- through this study, researcher looking for the main reason why some families are broken family.

Future Researcher- through this study, future researcher may used this research as their references or related

studies that are connected on their chosen topic.

Scope and Delimitation

This study only covers the Most Observed Reason Behind Broken Family or Separation of Parents

answered by Grade 10-Bonifacio 2 S.Y. 2019-2020 at Pampanga High School. Specifically,it is intended to

identify the mostly observed Reason Behind Broken Family.

Definition of Terms

1. Causes- a reason for an condition that has an someting that brings about effect or a result. There are so many

possible reasons it is hard to generalize, but mean the loss of one or more relationships within the family unit.

2. Effects- a change which is a result or consequence of an action or other cause. Children from broken homes

always grow up with issues of one type or another. Little boys need their mother for validation as men. Little

girls need their fathers for validation.

3. Result- a consequence, effect, or outcome of something. A broken family can negatively affect all domains

of your child's development effects, older children and teenagers may experience some problems in their

social, emotional and educational functioning.

4. Low Grades- being near that extreme of a specified range which is lowest, least intense, least serious

competent

5. Financial Problem- is a situation in which you are not able to meet your bills on time or afford necessary

basic needs.

6. Change- occurs when a person goes from being positive to negative, from slightly positive to very positive,

or from having no attitude to having one.

7. Bully- a person who habitually seeks to harm or intimidate those whom they perceive as vulnerable
