My name is Matthew Murphy and I am fit to be a wildcat. I'm a senior in high school
leaving me with lots of knowledge and potential to learn new things. In my senior year I'm
playing two sports, baseball and football. I have played both sports all of my life, but always put
school first. I currently have a 3.8 GPA and I am striving for a 4.0. I am a second year leadership
student at my school, San Marin High School. The leadership class has allowed me to play a
major role in the majority of our school events. In addition, I am able to communicate with my
peers and see what they are interested in to make the school year the best it can be. I currently
have over 40 hours of community service and all of them are from working a youth football
camp. One day after our spring football practice, one of the youth coaches came to tell us about
the youth camp that the majority of us once went through. We all knew what he was talking
about and lots of us jumped on the opportunity. Multiple teammates and I have helped out with
this annual camp by putting kids through different football related drills and eventually coaching
games for the kids later in the week. I have volunteered at this camp two times and would
volunteer again if I had the chance to. The best part about this camp is knowing that I was once
in their exact shoes and that they are the future of San Marin football. I am confident where the
schools program is headed. On a similar note, I have been working for our city parks and
recreational organization for the past four years. This job includes various aspects such as being
a camp counselor, a youth supervisor, and even a referee in some cases. This job has introduced
me to lots of opportunity and learning experiences growing up. Before this job, I did not have to
deal with taxes and my responsibilities were much smaller. Throughout my years working here I
have worked my way up and now I am a go to worker when school does not get in the way.
Working with them has been a great experience over the past years and I plan to continue
working throughout college while I am home. On top of being a two sport athlete, a leadership
student, and working with children, I also was elected to be on our homecoming court. This
means out of our whole senior class I was elected along with 9 others to be in the running for
homecoming king. All of these things make me a desirable student to have at your school.
Sincerely,
Matthew Murphy
