Dear Lou,

My name is McKenzie Edwards, I am from Greenville, South Carolina, and I have

a very strong southern accent. I live with my family and my dog, which is a boxer, and a

bunny. Moving to Alabama has been very hard for me, because I am five and a half

hours away and I have not seen my family or my high school friends for going on three

weeks now. However, I have really enjoyed being at the University of Alabama, and

being able to make new friends has been easy also, many restaurants and fast food

places are a fast walk away. Some of my hobbies are drawing and playing the guitar,

when I was at home over the summer, I took guitar lessons every week and I even

brought my guitar with me to college so I can still practice on my free time.

Additionally, I have taken English classes my whole four years of high school so I am

very familiar with writing papers and reading, many of my strengths are in writing such

as, coming up with topics to write about, proofreading, and planning what I am going to

be writing about. However, I do have weaknesses in writing such as, making

grammatical errors, procrastinating, and not finding the write words to say.

One of my strengths in writing is coming up with topics to write about, when given

a specific genre to write, I can come up with a topic in a matter of minutes and start

jotting my ideas down on paper. Another one of my strengths is proofreading, after I

finish a sentence I go back and reread it to fix any grammatical errors or fragments
within that sentence. Even when I finish a paragraph I still go back and read again just

to make sure I didn’t miss any errors. Planning what I am going to be writing about is

another one of my strengths. I like to plan or brainstorm ideas and think about what

topic that I am going to be writing about and come up with a strategy. I start by doing

research on the topic and writing down useful facts that I can incorporate into my writing

by using my own words.

My first weakness in writing is making grammatical errors, I either make

fragments in sentences or mistype words. Procrastinating is another one of my

weaknesses and my worst one. I get distracted easily and always wait until the last

minute to do any assignment. Another one of my weaknesses is not finding the right

words to say, I often find myself just staring at a blank screen hoping that the words

would come to me, but they never do without research and planning.

I have many goals that I hope to achieve this semester and to stop

procrastinating would definitely be at the top of my list. My next goal is to be able to

interact with my class and classmates more, and my last goal is to…. (come up with

another goal)
