The Rear Ending

Once a month my nana and I would always go to a specific salon to get our nails

done, this time I wanted to get something different in honor of Christmas being a few

weeks away. I decided to get red gel polish and afterwards my nana wanted to go to her

favorite store, Hamricks. I was headed over to Hamricks and had to stop at a red light,

there was an older blue van that stopped in front of me as well and after a few minutes

of waiting for the light to change I felt I a massive jolt from behind me, followed by two

more jolts. I sunk into my seat hoping it all was just a dream while the Christmas song

that was blaring fell silent as my nana’s screams grew louder than the chorus from the

song. I could feel my hands clenching the steering wheel tighter and tighter after every

jolt and after realizing what happened a man came up beside us. When he came to my

driver’s side window he said that he seen everything from the side walk and that we was

just rear ended by three cars. He called the police for us, because we were still in shock

from what just happened and waited with us until the police arrived. After waiting what

seemed like forever the police finally came and handled everything, we then headed

back home, not even going to Hamricks for my nana.

The next day was painful, my lower back was very sore from tensing up and I

had bruising all across my chest from my seatbelt catching me. My mom set up an

appointment to go see a doctor and get x-rays taken incase anything was severely

wrong. The x-rays came back good, but I had bad inflammation in my lower back. My

doctor prescribed me medication for my inflammation and made an appointment for me

to go see a physical therapist, I went to the therapist for five weeks, however going

there did not really help my back at all. I still have bad lower back pain if I drive for

longer than two hours or if I bend down. After going to the doctor I then took my car to

get looked at to see if there was anything that could get fixed, sadly my car was totaled

and I had to use a rental car for the next three weeks.

My nana, however had it much worse than I did, the next day she said that her

knee hurt worse than ever before, she has suffered from arthritis in both of her knees

since she was 60 years old, so she went to the doctor as well. The doctor said that she

needed immediate knee replacement surgery because of how hard she hit her knee on

my dashboard, and the closest appointment to get the surgery was the following week.

When it was time for my nana to get surgery I could tell she was nervous so, I bought

her something that she had been wanting for a while. The surgery went great, but a

month after the surgery my nana said something did not feel right in the knee that she

had surgery on. So she went back to the surgeon and they tested her nerves, sadly they

said that she no longer has feeling in her knee anymore.

I felt so bad for my nana and wish that day never happened, however my nana

is doing much better now and during the time of the wreck senior graduation was in the

near future. After everything was taken care of by our insurance company, my parents

bought me a car for graduation. I was extremely happy and was ready for a car of my

own again, instead of having to drive a rental car and my parents driving me places.

Ever since that day happened I have been extra cautious at red lights and I always look

in my review mirror to make sure the car behind me will actually stop and I am also very

grateful that the wreck was not worse.
