The state of Nevada belongs to the Ninth Circuit of the thirteen courts of appeals. The
Ninth Circuit is the largest of the courts with 29 active judges. The chief judge is Sidney Runyan
Thomas, and the circuit justice is Anthony Kennedy. The other districts included in this circuit
are Alaska, Arizona, California broken up into four smaller districts, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana,
Oregon, and Washington broken up into two smaller districts. This larger court can also review
and change the outcomes of courts in the districts of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.
In the Nevada Constitution Education is the eleventh article. Under the main article is ten
sections.

encourages education. It also provides a superintendent of the schools in Nevada and what they
will do. As well as defines how long the superintendent will serve in this position.
Section two, uniform system of common schools. This legislature says there must be a
system for all the public schools in a district to use. These systems should be maintained at least
six months a year. It states that any school that does not adhere to this system may not be funded
by the state. This legislature also covers the security of general attendance of the students.
Section three, pledge of certain property and money, escheated estates and fines collected
under penal laws for educational purposes; apportionment and use of interest. This legislature
pledges that all land and property granted by Congress to the state for educational purposes may
only be used for educational purposes. Any proceeds made by these educational facilities, or by
the sale of the land, may only be used for educational purposes as well. Any interest made on

these may be used for educational purposes during the year. If necessary some may be used by
the state university. If any is left at the end of the year it gets pooled for general educational
purposes.
