Kupsky 10025 Bunkum Road ¢ Fairview Height: (618) 489-2000 ¢ www.cofh.org October 3, 2019 A Letter from the Mayor of Fairview Heights: The City has received numerous calls and comments regarding the relocation of the Planned Parenthood facility. The City of Fairview Heights, including the Mayor's Office, first learned of the relocation of Planned Parenthood, which has operated in the city since 1990, during the media announcement this week The owners of the property, Missouri Plaza LLC, applied for building permits through their construction company, Lubin Enterprises, for the renovation of an existing medical office located on Salem Drive, which is currently zoned for medical, dental and hospital services. When applying for building permits, the property owner is not required to identify prospective tenants. The permit is reviewed to ensure the type of business and construction activity meets all city zoning, building and property maintenance codes. Since the new site meets the City's zoning requirement for type of business, no special process was required by ordinance of the Planning Commission, City Council, or Mayor's Office. The new site meets all legal requirements. The State Laws of Illinois allow for and regulate the services being provided by Planned Parenthood through Ilinois' Reproductive Health Act. The state regulates the approval and operations of the services that Planned Parenthood provides. Currently, they are adhering to and following state laws and local guidelines. ‘As the Mayor, | certainly understand and appreciate the concems of our residents and visitors to our City regarding the relocation of this facility within our city.
