Teacher Thoughts:
5th Grade:
● Little bit louder voice.
● When a student gives an incorrect answer, try to probe them to get the correct answer.
● Questioning techniques. By questioning through the lesson, the students will stay
attentive. Make THEM “teach” the lesson.
● Walk around more and help students
● Ask a student to tell you the title of the book, ask a student to give you the call number.
● Check in with students more. Especially the “check for understanding” students.

6th Grade:
● Nip talking in the butt with 6th grade as soon as it starts. Stay on them.
● Louder voice. They need it.
● Walk around more and keep an eye on them as they are completing the videos.
● Getting down on their level to help. Good.
● A lot of your “troubles” are currently just repeating things for the students. Even if they do
not think they need to be reminded, they do.
● Keeping classroom routines consistent.
● Good job with helping new students and students who need an extra hand.
● Keep an eye on tables that like to talk and keep them in line.

Teacher Thoughts:
I promise, I will stop interrupting you. I am a type A person who struggles to give up
control. You are doing a wonderful job - even if it seems like I am being tough. I had a
co-op who was so so so tough on me, but she made me a better teacher and librarian. I
want you to be successful.
5th Grade:
● Welcomed the students at the door - great.
● Nipped talking in the butt right away.
● Paced yourself to make sure students were filling out sad library excuses.
● Giving time for students to sharpen pencils and get settled.
● Your questioning technique is getting better.
● Reminded students of classroom rules. Stay on them.
● Allow students to work ahead if they want - it creates opportunities for students to help
other students.
● Thumbs up and thumbs down is good - but try to find other ways to have the students
non-verbally communicate with you that they are at the place you want them to be at.
● This seems to be a chatty class - gotta just keep on them.
● Louder!
● Start calling on students who have not volunteered.
○ Raise your hand if you found the book that we are searching for (good prompting
questions)
● I really liked the way you handled the “I Survived.” Good way to make the student feel
like they contributed. Even if their answer was “wrong”
● Walk around a bit more. Especially when you are not needed at the board. It keeps the
students from fooling around on their chromebooks.
● Get the other students started on the rest of the worksheet, then take the time to walk
around and help the students.
● This is a very needy class, you are doing a really good job at helping them.
● Make sure your threats aren’t empty. Follow through on your “threats” about taking away
couches and other privileges.
● Do not forget to tell students what to do after they finish their worksheet. And keep
reminding them as they work independently.
● Anticipate their questions. This is something that takes awhile to perfect, but as you
continue teaching, you will start to see what questions they might potentially ask you.

6th Grade:
● You handled class starting late VERY well.
● Handled the kiddos talking well.
● Walking around - great. Even if the kids are working quietly. You NEVER know what they
could be getting into.
● Even if the student has a 1:1 aide, still check in with them. Sometimes the aide gets a bit
confused or lost and they don’t want to bother you. (You did this without prompting later
in the lesson. SORRY)
● Love that you are getting down to their level, they seem to respond well to it.
● We should add “close your chromebook and wait for next directions.” That really lets you
know that they are ready for the next steps of the lesson. Always try to think of ways to
nonverbally communicate with you.
● Some students are having trouble with logging on. Their computer is glitching out, you
handled that well. Librarians often wear MANY hats and IT person is one of them.
● Students are helping other students - that means that your directions were clear and
concise enough that they feel confident to help others.
● Martin did not follow the directions, he needed to be directed. I helped him. (SORRY)
● Xander likes to call out - we have to correct that. GOOD
● Repetition is key. Constantly repeating the directions is good.
● The quiet talking is ok. It is really hard to keep the kids quiet. But the minute it gets
LOUD is when you need to have them quiet down. It naturally takes about 5 minutes for
it to get out of control.
● GOOD, keeping the table on track.
● Gotta be louder. The kiddos WILL talk over you.

6th Grade: Word Art Lesson

● Handled my mess up well.
● This lesson is a great co-teaching experience for you. And is pretty straightforward.
● Walking around = good.
● Actually looking at chromebook screens = good.
● One on one help and instruction.
● Students are well behaved for two reasons. Because their teacher is here and also they
know the rules of library class.
● The terms and use debachel. It is all about thinking on your feet and attempting to be
prepared.
● Walked out to check on the students who may need help printing to the printer.
● Having conversation with students based on the student’s word art creations. It is a good
way to get to know the students.

Teacher Thoughts:
5th Grade:
● I missed how you welcomed them into the classroom but when I arrived back, the
students were on task and quiet. Great.
● You handled the “can we look at the correct answers?” question well. I did see a few
students peeking. That is natural and their curiosity got the better of them.
○ I would go over the answers together.
● Make sure to have the student’s chromebook mirror and not extend. It can get really
confusing for them.
● Thanking everyone for following the directions.
● Watch the talking. The kiddos are really excited about newsela. Also - the little blip in the
lesson (not any of our faults) got them off track. Just keep reminding them of the rules
and floyd.
● Make an announcement that they can do book selection or read around the room when
they are finished. Do not wait for a student to ask - it is all about anticipating the
questions.
● Keep an eye on the kiddos while they are out for book selection.
● Good intro, thanking the students for following the directions.
● This class is a little chatty - it is all about keeping them on task.
● This class is going better because I am not hovering. You seem to be more confident
and the students are not coming to me.
● Your voice is getting louder, great.
● Complimenting the students on following the directions.

6th Grade:
● Welcome to the class.
● Voice getting louder.
● The students seem on task. They are quiet and getting their work done.
● The class is doing very well and you are keeping them on track.
● Explained the rules very well.
● It seems like you have gained a lot more confidence after your first full day of teaching.
Great job!
● Like usual, the kids are excited about the kahoot. It keeps them engaged and puts the
learning back on them.

Teacher Thoughts:
5th Grade:
● Book Fair Introduction lesson.
● Students came in and were very chatty. We have to watch that group of girls who were
in the back of the line, they love to talk.
● I would put a screenshot of what that top of the screen looks like, it will cause less
confusion for the students.
● We had a shortened period, so this lesson probably felt a little bit rushed. The next few
ones will be fine. It is all about adapting to the things that happen that interrupt the
school day. (Just wait to your experience a 2 hour delay or even 3 hour)
● This group came in much better.
● You told them about headphones sooner.
● Reminding them to stay quiet because floyd is turned on.
● Make use of the bell - it will help you not lose your voice.
● Walking around and helping the students.
● You are doing a really good job at remembering the student’s names.
● Evan is doing a really great job - he responds very well to positive reinforcement.
● Love that you are double checking that the students are doing it correctly.
● Watch the noise level - it is good, but they will keep testing you.
● Clarifying the schedule.
● Looks like you might need to do the first two slides with them - then allow them to watch
the video independently. Last year, I was able to allow the students to work on their own
the entire time, but that doesn’t seem like it will work for this group.
● Keep reminding them of their book fair date every class.
● Having a conversation with the students about what books they are interested in from
the video.
● The students in this classroom are being better behaved than the last class. 5th grade
takes on the personality of their section teacher. Mrs. Hix is a new teacher - therefore the
class might be getting away with more, that means we must be a bit stricter with them.

6th Grade:
● We need to be on 6th grade more. The talking starts quietly, then gets out of control. If
we are lenient with them now, it will become too much to handle.
