GENERAL INTRODUCTION ON TL SERIES

The TL series digital radio family is IP/SDH high capacity microwave radio
system designed for trunk, spur , access , nodal , mobile backhaul transmission
applications.

TL series include the TL Standard Shelf and TL Compact shelf product.

The TL series operates in the radio frequency bands of 4/5/U6/8/11 GHz with
40 MHz RF channel spacing and 4/L6/U6G/7/8/13 GHz with 30 MHz RF channel
spacing (28/29/29.65/30 MHz). The equipment is fully solid state and designed
to meet latest ETSI and R&TTE standards, ITU-T and ITU-R Recommendations
for long haul and high capacity digital microwave radio systems.

The modulation scheme used is fixed or adaptive coded modulation scheme of

4/16/32/64/128/256/512/1024 QAM depending on propagation condition with
Low Density Parity Check type forward error correction.

The TL can be used in various types of IP/SDH networks such as ring, media
diversity or linear configurations, and various transmission path conditions such
as over water, over mountains, inter or intra city routes.

The TL accepts mixed ACCP/ACAP/CCDP operation with SD & TSD applying

single or dual RF band and single or dual / double terminal configuration having
maximum sixteen (Standard shelf) or four (Compact shelf) complete systems
per rack

Various types of optional auxiliary signal transmission functions such as 2.048

Mbit/s wayside traffic and 64 kbit/s digital service channels are available.

All configurations standard/high power, XPIC, space diversity are managed by

the same unit (TRMD) implementing all baseband, modem and RF functionality
in a single unit

TL series is managed by an SNMP agent using communication ports that are

able to connect to an IP DCN. This greatly simplify integration efforts in existing
NMS networks.

TL Series

Frequency Allocation System

TL can provide four (4) frequency allocation systems as follows:

 ACCP (Adjacent Channel Co-Polarized) operation:

One (1) STM-1 or Gigabit Ethernet signal per RF CH using single polarization (V or H) is transmitted.

 ACAP (Adjacent Channel Alternate-Polarized) operation:

One (1) STM-1 or Gigabit Ethernet signal per RF CH using V-polarization and H-polarization alternately is
transmitted.

 CCDP (Co-Channel Dual-Polarized) operation:

Two (2) STM-1 or Gigabit Ethernet signals are transmitted simultaneously using both V-polarization and
H-polarization.

 1+1 Hot-Standby operation (future option):

One STM-1 or Gigabit Ethernet signal is transmitted using one RF CH and V or H-polarization without
adjacent CH.

And mixed ACCP/ACAP/CCDP operation is available excluding 1+1 Hot-Standby operation.

Configurations
Configurations supported are:
 N+1 or N+0 & M+1 or M+0 combined ACCP/ACAP/CCDP with/without SD/TSD
(Maximum 4/16 systems with single/dual RF band, Point-to-Point Terminal)

 N+1 or N+0 & M+1 or M+0 combined ACCP/ACAP /CCDP with/without SD/TSD
(Maximum 4/16 systems with single/dual RF band, Dual/Double Terminal)

 1+1 Hot-Standby (two (2) systems per rack, Point-to-Point Terminal) (Future option)

 2-directional 1+1 Hot-Standby (four (4) systems per rack, Dual/Double Terminal) (Future option)

All configurations can be provided with or w/o XPIC; upgrade by software key is necessary.

Space Diversity with SD Combiner
As a countermeasure against severe propagation path conditions, Space Diversity (SD) reception is provided as
option. Space diversity function is fitted as standard and enabled by license key.

The SD system generally uses two antennas, the upper and lower antennas. The Main antenna (upper) is used for
transmission and reception commonly. The SD antenna (lower) is used only for space diversity reception. TRMD
has function of two sets of receivers, one receiver (Main receiver) is connected to the Main antenna and the
other (SD receiver) is connected to the SD antenna.

The SD system can improve the Carrier to Noise Ratio (C/N) up to 2 to 3 dB during the stable propagation
condition period and significantly reduce the outage probability due to multi-path fading.

SD combiner method is In-Phase (IP) type combiner in baseband.

Space Diversity with two antennas

As a countermeasure against severe propagation path conditions, transmitter space diversity with two antennas
is also available as an option.

CCDP (Co-Channel Dual-Polarized) Operation

The CCDP frequency operation system can transmit two main signals per RF simultaneously by using same RF
frequency carrier both V- and H- polarization. This operation is able to double the spectrum efficiency.

For CCDP operation, FRX-3E has following features:

 Powerful XPIC (Cross Polarization Interference Canceller) function

 Asynchronous processing technology for XPIC

No synchronization between H- and V-polarization RF LO carrier needed.

ETHERNET CHARACTERISTICS

Ethernet Frame mapping over Radio Link

When equipped with Ethernet Interfaces, the TL Series transfers Ethernet packets directly onto the radio link.
SIAE MICROELETTRONICA TL maps Ethernet straight into the radio frames (Native IP), this approach provides a
point-to-point unacknowledged connectionless service over the radio channel. A CRC is added to prevent wrong
packets being forwarded.

Ethernet Throughput
TL radio systems provides full-duplex Ethernet throughput ranging from 24 up to 285 Mbit/s per radio channel.

MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

NMS common Platform

The TL series is integrated into the NMS5LX and NMS5UX Network Management System platforms developed by
SIAE MICROELETTRONICA, and capable of controlling and monitoring all equipment included in SIAE
MICROELETTRONICA product catalogue.

WEB management (with embedded WEB server) is available for local management as an installation-less
management option.

All SIAE MICROELETTRONICA NMS solutions are based on standard protocols. SNMP Protocol is used for TMN
connections with standard communication protocol stacks and industry-standard interfaces allowing equipment
connection to any IP-based DCN.

Management Software
TL is designed on SNMP and HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol). SV card, main controller installed in the TL, is
composed both an SNMP embedded agent and a web server.
SV card has two (2) Ethernet port and two (2) DCC (Data Communication Channel) terminations from radio/line
sides as a connection port for NMS.

In order to satisfy the requirements of local and centralized management, SIAE MICROELETTRONICA has
developed the following software/platforms/systems:

 NMS5-LX (Element Manager) for centralized management of medium networks with up to 1000 Network
Elements per server (Linux OS)

 NMS5-UX (Element Manager) for centralized management of large networks with up to 10000 Network
Elements per server (HP Unix OS)

 Web LCT for maintenance and line-up activities (MS Windows® OS) accessible via Browser

For a more detailed description of SIAE MICROELETTRONICA supervision software platforms, please refer to the
specific product literature.

TL uses two (2) type of application layer protocol. HTTP on TCP/IP is used for a web based connection between
the built in web server and a client PC. SNMP on UDP/IP is used for connection between the embedded SNMP
agent and SNMP managers.
