Daily Lesson Log in Grade GRADE NINE Subject SCIENCE 9

Dates Covered October 11, 2019 Quarter 2ND QUARTER

I. OBJECTIVES

The learners demonstrate an understanding of the development of atomic models that led to the description of the behavior of electrons within
A. Content Standards
atoms, how atoms combine with other atoms by transferring or by sharing electrons and forces that hold metals together

The learners shall be able to analyze the percentage composition of different brands of two food products and decide on the products’
B. Performance Standards
appropriate percentage composition .

C. Learning Competencies
(Write the LC Code for
each)
CHEMICAL BONDING
II. CONTENT
LEWIS ELECTRON DOT SYMBOL AND THE VALENCE ELECTRONS
III. LEARNING
RESOURCES
A. References (Include
Teacher’s Guide pages,
Learner’s Materials pages, SCIENCE LEARNER’S MODULE PAGES 125
Textbook page, Additional SPIRAL SCIENCES
Materials from Learner’s
Portal)

B. Other Learning
Copies of element papers, bingo daubers and periodic table of the elements
Resources/Materials

IV. PROCEDURES
Set of questions will be shown in the TV monitor
A. Review
(Definition of chemical bonding, periodic table of the elements, etc.)

B. Establishing a purpose
Show pictures of people taking a nice dip in a lake, ocean or in a pool.
for the lesson.
Guide Questions:
C. Presenting 1. Say something about the picture.
examples/instances of the 2. What are the elements present in water?
new lesson. 3. How do these elements combine to form familiar compounds such as water?

D. Discussing new concepts Locate periods and groups of the elements in the periodic table of elements.
and practicing new skills Define what valence electrons is.
no.1 Discuss the meaning of Lewis Electron Dot Structures (LEDS) as well as the person behind this.
E. Discussing new concepts
and practicing new skills no. Model how to draw LEDS diagram for various elements.
2
“LEDS PLAY BINGO!”

Divide the class into teams and provide each team with a bingo dauber and a set of element papers.
F. Developing Mastery
Have students on each team take turns using the bingo dauber to put dots around each element to show its LEDS.
The first team to correctly create the LEDS for all the elements wins.

G. Application Why are Lewis Electron Dot Structures important?

Agree or Disagree Icons

H. Generalizations and
Abstractions Concepts about LEDS will be shown in the TV monitor then students will answer if it is correct or not by simply raising the AGREE AND
DISAGREE ICONS.

I. Evaluation A 10-item type of test will be given to the students.

J. Additional Activities for
Application and Describe the three types of chemical bonding.
Remediation

V. REMARKS

VI. REFLECTION

A. No. of learners who

earned 80 % in the
evaluation
B. No. of learners who
require additional activities
for remediation who scored
below 80 %.
C. Did the remedial lesson
work? No. of learners who
have caught up with the
lesson.
D. No. of learners who
continue to require
remediation.
E. Which of my teaching
strategies worked well?
Why did this work?
F. What difficulties did I
encounter which my
principal or supervisor can
help me solve?
