Movie Title : Les Miserables (2012)

I. Summary

It began as the story of Jean Valjean , he was imprisoned for 5 years and in slavery for 14 years because
of stealing to help his sister and trying to escape the prison. He has been given by Inspector Javert a
parole that he will be a convicted man and nowhere to found a job or house just death and set him free.
He was lost in wilderness because of what is written in the parole saying his a convict man and sleep
behind the church which is their cemetery. When he is going to sleep a Bishop named Myriel helped him
and give him food , drink and bed but that generosity is began to be his chance to stole and live richer.
After so , he was been found by the guards and catch him and delivered to Bishop Myriel but even
Valjean shows him disrespectful Myriel still showed loved to him and tell the guards that he gave those
gold and silver to him and release him. Jean Valjean realized the love and kind of Myriel to him even
thou he was suffering for almost 19 years in a world like hell , he found a hope to retake his life again
and change. After 8 years Jean Valjean become a successful man , a mayor of town that has a good
reputation on rich or poor people , until , Inspector Javert shows up to him as a superior not knowing
the man his talking to is Valjean or (24601 that’s what he call him). A woman named Fantine was been
pushed away on the sewing job because of the disgrace she made lying to the first in hand of Valjean ,
she is indeed need of money that’s why she need the job but she didn’t have any choice than to be a
prostitute to fulfill the payment for her daughter Cosette to be free from slavery. Valjean saved Fantine
from the disgraced doing of prostitute and take him to hospital to take care. Meanwhile , Javert had
doubted the Mayor because he reminds him the prisoner 24601 or Valjean when the Mayor saved a
man stucked on a big wood. Valjean also begins to be aware that Javert suspects him as 24601 and then
he decided to show himself in the court saying he was the one Javert looking for. Then he returned to
see Fantine in the hospital , but sadly , Fantine has her final words and a hallucination of her daughter
and a promise by Valjean to save her daughter from slavery then she past away. On that time , Javert
already decided his mind that the Mayor is Valjean or 24601 and try to kill him but Valjean escaped from
a window and jumped in the ocean. Valjean set coursed to find Cosette and while in the middle of the
woods he found a girl walking alone with a bucket full of water , surprisingly it’s Cosette. Valjean pays
the one who take care of her as slave and set her free. For a the past 9 years , Valjean was hiding with
the fully growned beautiful Cosette. Marius a man part of the French Revolution saw a glimpse of the
beauty of Cosette and fell in love with her suddenly Cosette also make an eye to eye contact with
Marius and fell in love to apparently Marius friend Ephonie was inlove also with Marius and this girl is
the biological daughter of the one who take slavery with Cosette. The French Revolution began as the
death of Lamarque’s parade begin. They fought against the empire and fallen to it’s bullets many died in
that bravery to proclaim peace but one survive it’s Marius , he was been shot at his stomach but saved
by Valjean learning that Marius is the one that Cosette fall in to. In the end , Marius and Cosette married
and Valjean has finally in peace having his last farewell to Cosette and Marius and giving a letter to
Cosette that contains the long waiting past of Jean Valjean that she wants to know. And also when Jean
Valjean past away he’s soul seen Fantine and Bishop Maryiel and the thousand men , women and
children died during the bravery of the men for peace saying they won , raising their flag , singing and
achieve peace.

II. Reaction

The movie have so many conflicts about slavery , poverty , poorness , cruelty , improper use of power
and unjustice among poor people. It’s also a touching story like about with Fantine sacrificing her life
and doing such disgrace things to have money and save her daughter from slavery , the bravery of men
like Marius and others to proclaim peace that all the people shouts on their heart and blood and the
antagonist Valjean that even what happens to him in 19 years suffering he didn’t take a grudge against
Javert but save him trice. It’s also entertaining because all of the character really convey their feeling
and emotions through singing. I also like the part of the one who kept Cosette as slave , that scene of
them are very funny , they are high class thieves through stealing their things by attracting them to their
booze (wine) and the sexsual appeal of the wife.
