NOTE:

The following content is not directly from IRISH MEDICAL COUNCIL, it is entirely based on experiences of
different Newly/Recently registered doctors (Gen.Reg with PRES exemption on the basis of Recognized
Internship after 2008)

In a Nutshell, If you intend to apply for General Registration with PRES exemption on
basis of Recognized Internship
1-
Get your Degree and Passport (in case you don’t have it already)
2-
Take IELTS (Academic) and score 6.5 each and 7overall, minimum.
3-
Get your House job certificates (Must be according to IMC Recognized internships) and apply for PMDC
Experience certificate (form and instructions are available on PMDC site)
4-
Get your documents EPIC verified (see below)
5-
Make online account at IMC site.
Generic form for registration with IMC (available on IMC site)
Fill it according to the instructions, get all documents attested properly as mentioned in the form (GREEN
STAMP).Spend time in making sure you don’t make any blunders as it’s important to be vigilant.
(Currently they are accepting both online as well as conventional paper applications)
6-
Get an urgent Good standing certificate (form and instructions are available on PMDC site) send it directly
from PMDC.
7-
Send your documents, application and fee. Wait for acknowledgment email, you will be given online access
to see your application proceedings.
8-
if they approve your application they will send you an eligibility email, you will be asked to submit latest CV,
another form (they will send it in email) and registration fee, send those and start applying for jobs or you
can wait to get fully registered first and then apply for jobs.
DO’S:-
-Spend at least 1-2days exploring the forum “Doctors in Ireland”. The file section, old posts and comments
below them have answers to almost 95% of your queries.
-Be very careful while choosing your House Job specialities (Must be according to IMC Recognized
Internships) and even more careful about writing the TITLES correctly as PMDC copies anything and
everything that is on your HJ certificate, as it is , on your Experience Cert.
-Better to take Exp.Cert issuance form to PMDC by yourself rather than posting, make sure you visit EXP
department and request them to send your verifications NOW, they will just ask for extra charges for TCS,
no trouble and will minimize the delays
-GSC must be sent from PMDC, just take TCS track# from them. (with urgent fee, takes 4days maximum)
-Do get your certificates attested PROPERLY (as mentioned on IMC general registration form
CHECKLIST)
-It is seen that People with simplest certificates (G.MED and G.SURG 6months each) get registered in
minimum time, but can that effect the chances of getting a job? Yet to discover

DON’T’S
-Don’t mention the word Allied/Honorary/Additional in your certificates.
-Don’t leave any gaps (>2weeks) unexplained.
-Don’t write or send anything they haven’t asked for
-Don’t Panic, it can take up to 9-11months to get registered, lucky ones got it in 2months. Don’t
waste time in waiting, rather study, take exams, do anything good other than checking your email 5times a
day as I did.

internships.
The rotation requirements are as follows

Standard 1: Rotations
Training and experience must comply with the Medical Council’s policy on length of

should normally be consecutive, of which at least three months must be spent in

below mentioned specialities is acceptable. For Example, 2 months in General Medicine

registration. Please note that doctors who wish to pursue post graduate training will be required to establish

division, a doctor must pass the PRES or be exempt of PRES on basis of higher qualification and have
been granted the equivalent to a Certificate of Experience.

How to Apply for SHO post in Ireland via exemption Route?

Ireland is now a days most easily accessible to doctors via a very easy process but few
things should be kept in mind for this.
First of all this process is hectic and time-consuming , you need to have good
experience of IT and internet accessibility since most of documentation is done via
email and Skype.

Secondly it should be noted that there are very high chances that you will secure a job
in ireland but this is not 100 percent always. All that matter is luck , strength of your CV
is and your interview skills during job interview.

Thirdly nothing comes for free, It will cost you quite a bit but it’s not that much
expensive. Right from Ilets fee , courier charges, Pmdc certificates, Initial assessment
fee ,registration fee and Visa fee, NICOP(NIC for over seas Pakistani) and protector fee
etc will cost you Approx 2.5 to 3 lakh Pak Rupees. Once you get visa, you will have to
buy airline tickets by yourself which cost from 60 to 85 thousand rupees and INIS(Irish
Naturalization and Immigration Service ) demands you a stable account with 2 to 3 lakh
rupees in it at least.

Once you are done with registration process, Apply for jobs and don’t waste time in
finding job of you own choice and place. Just reach avail any chance you get and later
on you can switch to your own field or speciality.

Generally there is higher number of positions in Emergency Medicine, anesthesia and

Pediatrics.

It is a time taking process so keep calm and don’t panic. Almost 70 percent applicants
reach Ireland in 8 to 10 months or for maximum a year.

This blog is totally for help and guidance purpose so that my new friends and
juniors applying for Ireland won’t suffer a lot in documentation process.

Pre requisites for application of IMC registration in General division:

1. MBBS with House job of 12 months continuous with 3 months general medicine and 3 months
general surgery is mandatory. There are some additional things which should be noted .
As part of this twelve-month period, job of less than 2 months and more than 4 months
are not accepted in following specialties:

 Emergency Medicine
 General Practice
 Obstetrics and Gynaecology
 pediatrics
 Psychiatry
 Anaesthesia (to include perioperative medicine)
 Radiology
2. Ilets over all 7.0 (academic division), but in some cases NCHD hospitals can ask for 7.5 so try to
score better.
3. PMDC certificate for recognition of house job experience , this form can be download from
PMDC site download section. This is also called PMDC form IV. This takes 2 months at least in
some case even more so best way is to apply for this soon after you complete your house job and
start studying for Ilets. By the time you have cleared your ilets you will also get this certificate
from PMDC. Do remember that PMDC has issues with clerical mistakes,I
have seen many cases with mistakes of dates and wards. So fill form carefully and check it again
once you get it.
4. Passport. Apply for passport and better option is to apply for one with longer expiry date. I
didn’t know 10 years validity passport so I got one which will expire soon in 2018.
5. Download Generic application form 1 (GF-1) form Irish medical council website and fill it
accordingly and attach all document mentioned in check list . There is a check list at the end of
form so that you wont forget any important document. Here is the link
www.medicalcouncil.ie
6. Passport size photographs (front pose and recently captured ) .
7. Submit initial processing fee, which is mentioned at end of your form and it changes time to
time. It’s best if you can submit via credit card, Pakistani debit cards are rejected most of the
times so better forget that. Payment can also be done via demand drafts and payable cheques.
Payments are accepted in both Pound sterling and
Euros. It must be
worth to mention that normal Debit Card or ATM cards of Pakistani Banks will not work for
online submission of fee. I am not sure about Standard chartered Bank, it would be wise to
inquire from them. Another option is make a Credit card with credit limit of 1lakh plus , It will
make things go easy on you, since credit card will be needed for submission of initial assessment
fee , then registration fee and later for buying online airline tickets.
8. Good standing certificate from PMDC which is also called form V. PMDC will send it to irish
medical council directly. Good standing is valid for only 6 months so send it once your
application is received to IMC. Keep in mind that certificates send directly by you is not
accepted by IMC so let PMDC do this process.
What to do once all initial documents are ready and GF-1 is filled accordingly?

After completing documents and filling application form, you can send it via TCS or DHL
to Irish medical council

Postal Address is mentioned at the top of Generic Application Form. ( TCS is more
economical than DHL so act wisely)

Track your documents online via Tracking no. issued by TCS or DHL.
IMC will send you a reference number (which later becomes your registration number)
via email once they receive it and will put your application in process if every thing is in
order and valid.

It will take 3-6 month for process and once process is complete you will be given
registration in general division and they will inform you via email to submit your
registration fee.
Registration fee can be paid via credit card and also via bank draft and cheques.

You will have to submit public notary attested copy of passport.

Registration process will take a couple of days and once you are registered you will
hard copies of registration certificates on your postal address mentioned in GF-1. You
can apply for Jobs when you are registered. You can also apply once you get
acceptance email for Registration but mostly hospitals will prefer interviewing a Irish
Medical Council registered doctor.

How to apply for job in Ireland?

There are many website from where you can search for jobs via agencies and also
directly from HSE website.

For direct application make your profile on HSE site and keep looking for jobs, here is
the link

www.publicjobs.ie

If you want to forward your CVs to agencies that’s a better way since the agent will
guide you every step of the way and will keep in touch with you right from job interview
to your joining in Ireland. Agents are helpful in the way that they will also teach you how
to make your CV more presentable and also how to score a good interview.

What to do once you get SHO job in Ireland?
Three things should be done once you are offered a job after successful interview.

1. Apply for bank statement from your bank of last 6 months.

2. Apply for police clearance certificate from your police thana or district.
3. Collect other documents for work permit application ( your agent or hospital will guide you
about this on email once you get job )
Your agent or hospital will send you links for work permit application so don’t worry
about it. What you need is just to download that form , fill it and send back to Hospital
with relevent documents demanded as soon as possible. Your Hospital will make work
permit for you, free of cost and it will take a couple of days . You can finally apply for
visa once you get original work permit. It must be noted original work permit is needed
for Visa application, photo copy wont be sufficient.( before even copy was accepted)
How to apply for Employment VISA?
Once you get work permit and job in Ireland you will apply for VISA. VISA application is
an easy process and done online and your agent will help you in any difficulty.

Visa application is a very easy process but do it from a place with good internet speed
and printer facility so that you wont find difficulty.

Visa is applied via Irish naturalization and immigration website , Here is the link

http://www.inis.gov.ie
if you are applying for the first time as SHO, you will apply for Employment visa, single
journey and long stay. Take print of application summary at the end now move to
‘’Garry’s Visa Application Center’’ located in different cities of Pakistan. Here is the link
to find center nearest to your home.
http://www.vfsglobalirelandvisa.com/Pakistan/visa_application_centre.html#1
It must be noted that before this, all documents for VISA application was sent to Irish
Consulate Karachi directly but now it’s handled by Gerry’s International.

Garry’s demand all documents attested by respective education institute and Ministry of
foreign affairs. For example.
1.PMDC first verified by PMDC then attested by National Health and Regularity
authority Islamabad and finally attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
2. MBBS degree certificate first verified by awarding University (for eg KMU) then attested
by HEC then finally by Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
3. All other documents for eg. Bank statement of account details of last 6 months , Police clearance
certificate, Character certificate from institution etc should be attested from Ministry of foreign
affairs.
Other document check list for VISA application are as under;
Passport.
Completed and signed visa
application. A signed letter
explaining why you are moving from Ireland (i.e. Employment contract and offer letter
from hospital).
Photographs.
IMC registration certificate.
Work permit.
A copy of your medical degree (MBBS).
character certificate from Medical College or University.
PMDC certificate.
Police clearance certificate.
Bank statement of account details of last 6 months( your account should have 2 to 3 lakh
rupees in it at least and account should be in your name).
Address and contact details for the hospital in Ireland you will be working for.
Once every thing is attested you can go to Garry’s website and submit fee online via
your debit card and with prints receipts of online payment and appointment letter. They
will entertain you in their office on your appointment date and will record your
Biometrics( pictures, signature, finger prints etc). Garry’s will take your documents and
send to Irish consulate Karachi and then to Dublin for VISA decision.

This may take 4 to 6 weeks and you can check you application status on irish
naturalization and immigration website. They display a list of visa decisions every week
or two. Here is the link

www.inis.gov.ie
(go to VISA and then Visa decision , you will find list at the bottom of page)

What to do once you get an Employment VISA?

I forgot to mention before but go to DHO office get your self polio vaccination card after
drinking 2 drops of OPV. Funny but it is necessary before you leave country other wise

immigration will creat hurdles in your way.

Second most important thing is to get a certificate called ‘’protector certificate’’ on you
passport from Beuro of immigration Pakistan.
It must be remembered that Protector is needed for Employment Visa only. All other
type visa for eg spouse, family reunion, studies etc don’t need this process.
It will take a day or two but this also a hectic process. You can google protector office
location in your city , and it will cost you 6500 rupees. NICOP(national identity card for
overseas Pakistani) is a mandatory document for application of Protector certificate so
DO apply for NICOP from any NADRA office and keep its TOKEN and data base form
attested and saved with you.

If you are employed in Government or Army you will also need an NOC from them.

Best option is to take help of a protector agent here as well, They will charge you 1000
to 1500 rupees extra and will make your work fast, since you have to deposit fee at 3
different places so better let them do all this trouble work.

If you are going to apply for protector from Protector office Chandni Chowk
Rawalpindihere is phone no and address of an agent . He will give you discount if you
mention you are from Ayub medical college Abbottabad. ARSHAD SHAB 03005255156
Once you get protector stamp on your passport, arrange Air line tickets and inform your
hospital and agent about your expected joing date and flight.
My very best wishes for all doctors who want to move Ireland for better future and
excellence in this noble field. My friends and juniors if further guidance is needed do
not hesitate to ask your seniors and doctors in Ireland. It is necessary to do proper
documentation in the first place otherwise it will end up wasting you time and
money.
With
Regards,
Dr. Muhammad Khalid
balti Ayub Medical
College, Abbottabad.
