PURPOSE OF EVALUATION
The Evaluation Form is a means to analyze and evaluate the research project in the context of content, form, methodology, and
presentation of students to the panel members assigned to the research group. The quantitative rating given by the panel
member is used as a guide for the recommendation or final evaluation at the end of the oral presentation. All guidelines and
procedures as stated in Evaluation criteria will be applied.

RESEARCH PAPER ENCODING AND FORMATTING

Paper

Use 8 ½” x 11” high-quality, plain white bond paper with minimum 20-lb weight.

Type-Face and Size, Printing


 The thesis manuscript should be written in 12 pt. Arial font.
 Print should be laser printing or deskjet printing.
 Unless otherwise specified, use the same type-face and size throughout
the document; including equations, tables, figures and appendices.

Margins

 Left margin - 1½ inches to allow for binding


 Top margin - 1 inch above the first line of type
 Right and bottom margin - should be at least 1 inch
 Indentations - five spaces in from the left margin
 Left and right justify all text

Layout

 Copy must be type on one side of page only.


 Single column format only.

Pagination

 The preliminary pages (pages up to the first page of the text) are numbered with lower-
case Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, etc.); are placed at the bottom of the page, at the center
margin.
 Beginning with the first page of the text and continuing to the end of the manuscript,
number pages in sequence in Hindu Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, etc.); are placed at the top
of the page, at the right margin (1” down from the top edge and 1” from the right edge).

Spacing

 Double-space the main body of the thesis


 Single-space long quotations, tables, endnotes, bibliography entries
 Double-space between entries
 Four spaces between subsections in each chapter of the manuscript

Corrections
The final copies submitted by the researcher should be free from interlineations, crossing out of
letters or words, strike-overs, corrections made with liquid paper, or erasures.

PRE- ORAL/ORAL DEFENSE PROCEDURES

Defense Protocols for both proposal and final are as follows:

Pre-defense protocol
1. Endorsement. The student researcher seeks the endorsement of the Research Teacher
before they are scheduled for defense. The Oral Defense Recommendation Form will be
filled out for this purpose.
2. Submission of the research paper. Three copies of the research paper must be submitted
by the researcher one week before the scheduled defense. The three copies of the
manuscript are for the panel members.
3. Schedule of defense. Defense schedule must not be in conflict with official activities and
functions of the school. Thus, a common free time must be established before finalizing the
scheduled defense.

Actual Defense Protocol


1. Attire of Researcher. The researcher should come in business attire.
 Male- must wear Long sleeves polo, a neck tie and a coat over it, Slacks, and
Formal Shoes. Properly groomed hair

 Female- must wear a Dress with a below the knee length, Blazer over it, Formal
Shoes, heels must not be two inches high, Properly groomed hair. Light make up.

2. Documents/equipment needed. The following documents/equipment are needed during the


oral defense, to wit:

2.1 Oral presentation score/grading sheet for the panel members.

2.2 Copies of the research manuscript for the panel members and the
recorded/secretary. The researcher must have their own hard copy of
research.
2.3 Electronic equipment for the presentation. This should be ready for use.
2.4 All presentation tools must be submitted an hour before the start of the defense.

3. Prayer. A defense procedure will include the invocation by the researcher.


4. Introduction of the researcher. The adviser introduces his/her advisee and the title of his/her
research. The chairman of the panel then introduces the members of the thesis panel.
5. The Secretary will read the previous minutes of the proposal defense where suggestions are
cited.
6. Presentation of the Research.

6.1 The proposal defense presentation. The researcher presents the introduction,
statement of the problem, instrument used and the methodology. The time is limited
only to 5 to 10 minutes to give more time for the discussion between the panel
members and the researcher. Time for the discussion and interpellation should not
exceed 30 minutes per researcher.
6.2 The final defense presentation.
6.2.1 The researcher should present briefly the essential parts of the
research: Introduction, Statement of the Problem, Findings,
Conclusions and Recommendations. Chapters 1 to 3 for Pre Oral
Defense.
6.2.2 The final presentation will be limited only to 10 to 15 minutes only.
6.2.3 Discussion between the panel members and the researcher is not
to exceed 30 minutes.
7. The adviser is not allowed to answer queries of the panel members unless the
question/point of clarification is directly addressed to him/her.
8. After the presentation, the researcher and the adviser leaves the room to give time for the
panel members to deliberate on the status of the research presentation and paper.

9. After a decision has been made, the researcher and the adviser return to the room. The
chairman of the panel informs the researcher the status of his/her defense which would be
among the following:

9.1 Passed with revision. Without revision or with minor revision (grammar, sequencing
of presentation, deletion or addition of some facts/literature). Specifically, the
numerical rating of a student based on the Oral Defense Evaluation Form.
9.2 Re-defense. Major revision (data is insufficient, the researcher cannot justify the
results, the paper lacks discussion; presentation of data is poorly written). If the
researcher had to re-defend his/her work, he/she must improve the presentation and
add the suggestions of the panel members. A student with re-defense status was
given a percentage rating of 70 to 74.
9.3 Failed. The researcher failed to successfully defend the study; or failure to re-defend
his/her research.

o All Research Papers evaluated as FAIL should enroll again in the next semester may be
given any of the following recommendation:
 Continue working on the project
o All Research Papers evaluated as re-defense should ensure the completeness and
correctness of the Summary of Corrections given by the panelist, failure to comply will
receive a grade of 74.

PANEL MEMBER’S GUIDE

This document serves as a guide for all Research Teachers under the Basic Education
Department in choosing the Best expert to sit and comment on the its students research
papers. This document will also serve as a guide to the chosen member of the panel to help
improve and suggest better ways for the development of the research paper.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:
All panel reactor members for SHS Research Papers should fit the following list of
qualifications:

Primary Qualifications
1. Licensed Professional Teacher
2. Bachelor’s Degree
3. Has taken Research Methodology subjects and successfully passed a Thesis Course.
4. Is teaching Basic Education Subjects.
5. Is teaching Research Subjects.

In cases that no available faculty member of the Basic Education Teacher is available, a panel reactor
may be considered with those that have the following qualifications:

Secondary Qualifications
1. Graduate Studies units
2. With Masters’ Degree
3. With Doctorate Degree
