1 You will need nine little cardboard boxes, or some thick pieces
of cardboard. The important thing is that all nine parts are
exactly the same size. You will need to hold them together
while you decorate them. Do this with tape that peels off
quite easily.
Take a sheet of thick cardboard, hold the pieces firmly so
they don’t move and draw around the edge of them all. Now
with one of the squares mark the height on the outline: twice
at the top and twice at the bottom.
2 Put the little box on the sides and mark the width twice on
each side – so that you have the width of three and height of
three little rectangular boxes. With a ruler, join all the marks -
so you have a large rectangle around the smaller one.
Ask a grown-up to help cut these sections out.
Make sure the frame is the same size as all of the little
boxes combined.

4 Once the glue is dry, paint the outside of the frame first using
a vibrant orange. Use a bright green for the inside of the
frame.
Paint the pieces the same green as the inside of the frame.
Take them apart to make it easier. Paint the tops and all the
sides too.
To make the puzzle, stick all the boxes back together again,
except one.
6 Once painted go around all the edges with a black felt-tip pen.
Finally take the boxes out and mix them up. Remember,
there’s one empty space so you can slide the pieces of the
puzzle around.
