A.

What is recommended practice in preparing a tensile specimen for testing

The tensile strength test specimen shall be approximately 9 inches (230 millimeters )
long and approximately 1 inch (25 millimeters) wide. They may be machine cut or oxygen
cut and no others needed unless the sides are notched or are not parallel. If necessary , the
specimen shall be machined so that the side are smooth and parallel.

B. What are the condition for a welder to be re-qualified

The welder’s qualification shall rename in effect indefinitely unless the welder has not
engaged in the process for a period exceeding six months .

C. The number of root bend test specimen required to qualify a welder on 8 in. oD pipe with
a wall thickness less than or equal to 12.7 mm.

The number of root bend test specimen required to qualify a welder less than 323.8mm
pipe is two specimen

D. Which section of the code describe the “design and preparation of a joint for production
welding”.

Piping shall be welded by qualified welders using qualified procedures. The surface to be
welded shall be smooth , uniform, and free from lamination , tears, skill and others
deleterious that might adversely affect the welding.the joint design and stacing between
abutting ends shall be in accordance with the procedure specification use .

E. Define “single qualification” and mulpitle qualification.

1. For single qualification, a welder shall make a test weld , using a qualified procudere
to joint part nipples or segments of pipe nipples the welder shallmkae a butt weld in
either the rolled or the fix position
2. For multiple qualification , a welder shall successfully complete the two test
described below ,using qualified procedures. For the first test , the welder shall make
a butt weld in the fix position with the axis of the pipe either in the horizontal plane
or inclined for the horizontal plane at an angle of not more than 45 degrees

F. List the welding processes mentioned for use with the code

Automatic welding shall be done using one or more of the following process :
 Submerged-arc welding
 Gas metal-arc welding
 Gas tungsten-arc welding
 Flux cored-arc welding with or without external shielding

G. How welder identify their works

Piping shall be welded by qualified welders using qualified procedures. The surfaced to be
welded show be smooth, uniform, and free from lamination , tears and other deleterious
material that might edversely effect the welding. The joint design and spacing between a
butting ends shall be in accordance with the procedure specification use/

H. What is the maximun length of the individual incomplete fusion for the indication shall be
considered as defect

 The length of an individual indication of IF exceeds one inch(25.4mm)

 The aggregate length of indication of IF in any continuous 12 inch (304.8mm) length of weld
exceeds 1 inch (25.4mm).
 The aggregate length of indication of IF exceeds 8 percent of the weld length in any weld less
than 12 inches (304.8mm)in length.

I. Upon visual detection of a weld crack , what should be the next cost of actions

For qualification test weld to meet the requirement for visual examination, the weld shall
be free for cracks. The welder shall be this qualified.

J. List the requairements in a weld repair procedure

Defects, other than cracks, in the root and filler beads may be repaired with prior
company authorization. The defects, other than cracks, in the cover pass may be repaired
without prior company authorization. When repairs are make in a previously repaired area ,
a procedure similar to that for the repair of crack shall be used. All repair shall meet the
standard of acceptability given in section 6.

K. Who shall interpret the radiographic film of production welds

The company and the radiographic contractor should agree on the radiographic procedure
to be used before the performance
L. What is the maximum permissible outside weld reinforcement for a flash butt weld
M. Define manual, semi-mechanised and automatic welding
N. Which section of the code book describing the radiographic testing of welds make by
mechanized processes.
O. The meaning of “roll” welding
P. The based metal are grouped into three (03) groups based on their minimum yield
strength. Name the three (03) groups
Q. When performing a nick – break test , how wide the exposed area of fracture should be
(atleast). What is the maximum dimension of any gas pockets (s)
R. When conducting a procedure qualification on material with an outside deamiter of
135mm and wall thickness of 10mm, how many number of tensile test (s}required is / are
required
S. The number of test specimen required for qualifying a flash butt weld procedures
T. Name the processes which use equipment that controls only the filler metal fit
U. On open, how the filler metal and fluxes shall be treated
