A. Tujuan Pembelajaran
Setelah mengikuti proses pembelajaran, peserta didik diharapkan dapat mengidentifikasi tujuan komunikasi,
struktur umum dan unsur kebahasaan dalam teks pengumuman (announcement), menentukan gambaran umum/
topik, informasi rinci tersurat, informasi tersirat, makna kata dari teks, dan reference dari kata pada teks
pengumuman (announcement) dengan tepat.

1. What is announcement?
Announcement is a short functional text which consist of facts, event, or intentions, which are delivered
in oral or written. For this lesson, we will focus on written announcement at school. Where we usually
found the announcement? we are usually found it in the board information.
2. What is the function of announcement?
The function of announcement is to let everyone know what has happened and what will happen in the
future. Information will give information to public or just to small number of us. Such as the member of
student organization or the member of English Club.
3. Structure
The structure of the announcements in generally are the title and detailed information.There are some
important parts of announcement that should be understood by the user or the person who will give an
announcement.
HEAD
a. The title of Announcement
There is a title for an announcement but sometimes people do not put a title. The title of the
announcement will tell the audience or reader what the announcement about.
For example: “Open Day”, Enterpreneur Day”, “English Speech Contest”, “Saturday-Sunday Super
Camp” We also just put the word ‘announcement’ or ‘attention please’.

BODY
b. Addressee
The addressee is the subject to whom the announcement for. For example: To All Students, To All
Camps Participants, To All Parents.

c. Day, Date, and time

Day, date, and time will inform when the event, for instance, take place. For example:
Day : Wednesday
Date : 17th of August 2020
Time : 09.00 am
d. Place
The statement of place of event will tell the reader where the event take place. For example: Sport
Hall, Meeting Room, Scout Camp
 CLOSING
e. Contact Person
The contact person name and number usually stated so that the audience or reader who are interested
in the event will be easier to know or join the event. For example: Hafiz, class 7A Phone number:

WRITER
f. Writer/the people who responsible of the announcement. For example: the committee, headmaster,
chairperson.

4. Features
Language features usually used in announcement text are simple present tense and simple future tense.
For example:
 Due to some technical problems, the show will be postponed....
 We apologize for the inconvenience
 There will be a meeting on ....
 Please come on time and...

We can find the example of announcements easily; at the school, the magazine, the office, the market,
the hotels, websites, and social media. Announcements can be in oral or written form. For example,
announcement that we can hear at the train station. Announcements can contain something simple but
the point is still providing information needed by others.

Each class may send one team consisting of 15 students for the competition. Three winning teams will be

ANNOUNCEMENT

SMP Persada Bayongbong will celebrate its 16th anniversary on:

Place : Sport Hall

Time : 8.00 am – 11.00 am

To highlight this event, a special bazaar will be held together with music show featuring Fatin the
Indonesia x- factor. All the teachers and students are supposed to attend this celebration. For this reason,
all sport activities at school such as volleyball, basketball, and badminton will be cancelled for the time
being.
