MY BEAUTIFUL MALAYSIA WEEK

SMK Ipoh recently organized a cleanliness campaign in conjunction with ‘My

Beautiful Malaysia Week’ programme, that was launched by The Ministry of Education. The
duration of the programme was one week which started from September 1st to September 5th
2013.
The campaign was launched by the State Education officer of Kelantan, Tn. Hj. Ali
bin Ahmad. He is from JPN Kota Bharu. The launching ceremony was held at the school hall
which was decorated beautifully by the teachers and the students.
There are a few objectives of the campaign. The first objective is to inculcate the
importance of clean surroundings and personal hygiene among school students. The next
objective is to create awareness of environmental problems such as haze, acid rain, open
burning and so on. The last objective of the campaign is to encourage recycling among
students as the 3R campaign, Reuse, Reduce and Recycle.
There were a lot of activities that were held for the week. One of the activities was
gathered old newspapers and bottles. Students and teachers were asked to bring newspapers,
magazines and bottles from home to be gathered and sent to the recycle centre. We
successfully collected 500 kilograms of old newspapers and bottles. The next activity was the
posters that were pinned up around the school. These posters were drew by the students
themselves. Moreover, we had a sketch competition on cleanliness and Mohd Aqil Azri from
5 Science was announced as the winner, beating other 75 competitors. On Tuesday, we had
general cleaning around the school. Everyone participated in the cleaning. We had cleaned
our sports store, restrooms, bird’s park, field and the list went on. The last activity that was
held during the cleanliness week was the societies such as Biology Society, English Society,
Mathematics Society were assigned to plant flowering plants and trees around the school
compound. We planted hibiscus, sunflower and morning glory.
The impact of the campaign to the school was very good. At the end of the week we
can see that there were a lot of changes that we had made to our school environment. The
school looked clean and the garden looked so beautiful as well. Hopefully, we can have this
campaign again in future. Last but not least, “Save Our Planet, Make It Greener”.
