Becoming a Professional Teacher in Clark County

Standards:

• Recognize test question of what they need to know on testing day
LANGUAGE
• Ask and answer questions by going to tutoring location provided here in Clark County

Objectives:
1. Students will be able to understand test material that is needed to take the Praxis test here in
Clark County.
2. As well as the locations that are provided to them for taking the exam.
3. The students will also learn the cost of taking the test.
4. Reducing anxiety prior to taking a test.

Materials/Equipment: Handout of Example test questions, Praxis book, Power Point, Candy,
markers, dry board, cups, and straws

Procedures: Teacher: We will do a presentation on becoming a professional teacher for students

to get information needed to prepare them for their state license as well as get information on
state exams.
Students: Students will count off by 5 and each person will go into their assigned group. When
Students have done this it will prepare them for Ice Breaker and Praxis Minute to win it.
Teacher: Once the groups are separated they will pick a team captain for ice breaker the team
captain will be the same person for the Praxis Minute to win it.
Students: After the ice breaker students will review questions to play a game which are samples
to the Praxis test. Once students are in teams they will play the games that we have assigned
them. Along with this activity the students will learn about two techniques that will allow them
to relax when it comes down to testing.
Teacher: At the end of the activities whoever wins the games will get a small prize such as a
candy.
Closure:
1. What is one location of the test centers?
 2. How much does it cost to take the praxis test?
3. What is one requirement for the Nevada teacher’s license?

Ice Breaker: Minute to win it

Each team captain will get a straw and go stand in front of a cup. They have one minute to push
the cup over the edge or the closest to the edge. Whoever is the closest or the winner in the
minute to win it gets a two minute advantage to look over or google questions to game we will
play next! After the two minutes are up then the rest of the teams will have 3 minutes to look
over the questions and come with answers.

Praxis Minute to win it: The class will be broken into groups and we will have them playing a
game answering sample questions of the praxis test. Each team will have 1 minute to answer the
question if they get it right they will get a point. If they answer wrong another team has the
opportunity to answer the question and take their point and get a point. At the end of the
questions whoever has the most points win a prize.
