Analysis of Thesis entitled “ Language Learning Strategies and English

Proficiency of Grade 12 Students.

To be proficient in English is something comparable to how someone solve math

problems. Many of us find it very difficult to deal with math subject wherein we face

different ways how numbers work in a given situation. That is also how some people feel

about learning English as second language. In learning, each of us has our own way that

we know we are comfortable with or contribute something for us to learn easily.

In school English is being used as medium of instructions. Teachers are instructed

to use English in delivering the lessons, dealing with the students or even socializing with

other related and unrelated individuals around. Of course, the instruction must be followed

strictly by all English Teachers because that is the meaning of their field of specialization.

They are required to be proficient as what they want for their students especially in English

class. They enforce sometimes the “No Tagalog Policy” to develop language learning in

the part of the learners.

The Title

The researcher chosen Language Learning strategy as a point of their study or as

their Independent Variable (IV) of course aside from it is interesting in the part of those

who are wanting to learn English but also to identify the level of proficiency of Grade 12

students when it comes to English learning. Determining their rate is somewhat provide

basis for the institution or authority in making interventions that would further enhance

their English knowledge. English proficiency is also chosen as their Dependent Variable
(DV) to determine how their learning strategy affects their status of adapting the language.

This study is also a good technique in anayzing the needs of the students so that

administrator could provide aligned and effective curriculum design in the future. There

comes the idea of needs analysis or we call it environment analysis wherein there are

things to consider such as for example the teachers, students, and the situation. In this

study, whoever read this will be informed of course of dominant strategy of students as a

result that would give them ideas to be taught or applied to their learners.

The Statement of the Problem

This study aimed to investigate strategies of the students in learning the English

Language, their proficiency level and the relationship between them.
